Turn signals not working
Hi All,
So my turn signals just stopped working. It happened before about a month ago too, after not riding for a few weeks. A month ago, the turn signals came back on after riding on the highway. This time, the turn signal seemed to have stopped working on the way home on the highway. The turn signal indicator does not turn on either. I checked/swapped the fuse for turn signals, swapped out the relay. But still doesn't work. I will check the switch later, but any other reasons why my turn signals wont work besides a broken/loose wire, which is really hard to check for. I wiggled a few wires around, but the lights still wont turn on. All other electrical components work, such as horn, headlights, taillights, ignition. I have done searches, but usually the answer was either relay, or it had to do with led lights. |

The diagnostic must be done step by step, eliminating possible causes. One easy way to do it is by-passing elements, which means inserting a bridge piece of cable between the inlet and the outlet of the relay and then of the switch. Please, see this general explanation: http://auto.howstuffworks.com/turn-signal1.htm

have you installed LEDs? Any other modifications? If not sounds like a bad turn signal relay to me, or it could be the switch itself in the left forward control.

Is your bike stock?? Do you have a fender eliminator kit installed?? Integrated taillight?? The more info we have on your bike, the more likely we are to be able to help you track down the potential causes..
I have an integrated taillight, and one of my wires came loose about a week ago.. It was a simple fix, as the connecting wires are inside my pillion seat area.. However, I wouldn't have noticed it during my ride if it hadn't been pointed out to me by one of my fellow riders.. I always do a pre-ride check, and they were working fine.. I keep my XENA disc lock in my pillion as well, and it must have jarred enough to knock the wires loose.. D'oh!! |

Nope, did not install any LEDs. Bike is pretty much stock. I have changed the turn signals to BikeMaster Universal Flush Mount Marker Lights (Turn Signals) about 2 years ago. I changed relays, but it still didn't work. I will google how to bypass the switch. Thanks!
