Get the insert for the jacket. I hope to order this soon. It won't be available for another couple weeks!

http://www.rideicon.com/showImage.js...lsize&rank=105

In the Orange color of course. I hate the yellow. Going to add the spine protector and viola done. If they say they didn't see me I will laugh all the way to the bank.

Best though I was in the store with all that gear on except helm and gloves and some dolt asked me if I rode a motorcycle. In a calm voice I answered "no, why do you ask?"

Since I went down I figured I do a crash rating on my gear.

Helmet- I had on my S&S moment of truth helmet. Did it's job perfect, my head hit hard and bounced and I didn't feel a thing. Not even a slight twinge of a headache. 5 stars am buying another.

Gloves- A* sp2 the CF on the left nuckles dinged and ground down. Nothing hurt on my hands and still usable. 5 stars.

Boots - A* smx-5 toe slider needs to be replaced plastic ankle protectors scratched and scuffed but left foot has 0 damage and boots are still good 5 stars.

Jacket- S&S coast is clear. A few scuffs but my shoulder and elbow are in primo condition and after a good wash the jacket is in all most perfect shape again 5 stars.

I am glad I did the research and picked out quality gear. It all held up exactly as the manufacturers said they would and both companies have my business for life or till the start to skimp on the gear lol.

My Tpro Forcefield insert came in yesterday. Fits inside my Fieldsheer Congo 2.0 Textile like a glove. I was surprised at the thin foam padding I pulled out. I never really looked at it until it came out. Thank God I got the insert. I can't imagine that padding doing anything to reduce an impact.

I just ordered a Shift Avenger Textile Jacket. I got it on closeout for a decent deal at 40% off + free shipping . Anyway, it has tons of awesome little features on it. here's a pic of the color combo I ordered:

and heres a link to a video review if any ones interested in the jacket. I think I'll post up some more pics and maybe my own review when it gets here.

Some real armor certification standards here in the States would be nice. It's crazy what they can get away with calling armor...

I'm sure there are some other threads on this, but while I am here, where do you guys recommend a place to (on the cheap) update my closet so to speak? Like Cody, where did you find a 40% closeout?

I got my jacket at Iron Pony Motorsports. I simply chose what jacket I wanted to buy, then searched through Google shopping. It's a very helpful search tool. You will find that many websites sell what you want, but google finds which ones sell it the cheapest.

BlackBerry pictures of new helmet: Shoei RF-1100 Divinity TC-6. Need to get a SD card for Go Pro and maybe I'll have better pictures. lol

Edit: Forgot to mention (since these pictures don't show them), there are light silver graphics around the helmet too.

Quick summer gear report...

My Speed and Strength textile jacket is very good up to 85-90f, after that it's too hot...

My First Racing mesh jacket is great so far(91f)... It's fills good to ride without a shirt under the mesh jacket, when it's real hot...

The Shoei RF1000 is great in all seasons... The air flow is very good... I'll all ways spend the money to get a top notch helmet...

The Sac-Tec back protector is great in textile, and mesh... It's not near as hot as I thought it would be... If you don't have a back protector, I think this is a must have in you jackets...

The Bhon shorts are made for this... I think with mesh pants, and the Bhon shorts, the 100+ summer will be very nice...

The Thor knee pads work very well under my over size jeans, and so far the heat is not an issue with them... The best $13 protection you can buy...(for a bike)

My Oxtar boots are very conformable in any weather... Money well spent...

Oh, my Motoboss gauntlet gloves are breaking in very nicely... I thought the thick leather would be too much for the heat, but so far so good...

On a side note... My Cortech tail bag is Super handy for every day needs...

Here you go....

As I upgrade my riding gear I'm definitely going to switch to leather, it just wasn't in my budget to look at leather jackets or pants first time around.

Only thing missing is my back pack - which is just some pack I bought on clearance at Target. Will hopefully be getting the Icon Squad 2 Mil Spec back pack later this year.

Oh yeah.. please feel free to not point out the fact that the blue in my jacket doesn't match the bike. My wife was more than gracious enough to notify me of this when I first rode my bike while wearing the jacket.

My Joe Rocket Phoenix is dying after about 6 months of daily use. Mesh is starting to fray. I'd hoped for more wear, but for $100 I suppose I shouldn't be surprised.

I replaced it with a REV'IT Turbine, which is pretty much the ideal hot weather jacket. Woven ceramic abrasion in the key bits (better abrasion resistance than leather), backed up by 1000D cordura, with tight weave dynex mesh for ventilation, and pro-life and sas-tec armor, exceeding CE. I'm super excited, though it was spendy. Next equipment upgrade: to a Kali Naza Carbon helmet from my current flip up HJC.

Nice jacket! I thought about that one too, but purchased the 2011 RS Taichi Armed High Protection Mesh Jacket.

reaubideux, that's a very nice picture, and I like how you labeled the gear.

Thanks lux & Joon for the compliments on gear and photograph. I stole the idea to label the gear from Christian's (Ninja Chris) photo previously in this thread. I'm liking the helmet and boots the most - considering the price - the gloves aren't bad. The pants and jacket are fine. My only real complaint is the zippers on the pants and jacket. Never thought I'd care that much about zippers but I'm planning on seeking out gear that has YKK zippers next time around. I had to send back my first jacket b/c it came brand new with malfunctioning zippers on the inner flap of the jacket. The "fly" zipper on the pants won't stay up either. I used to think it was b/c I was originally using them as overpants (not designed to be but they still fit okay) and the tension on the zipper is what caused it to back down a bit. After going with only boxers on, the zipper still backs down a bit after riding. Not too bad that I'd be worried about giving a peep show though. I've kicked around the idea of giving full reviews of my gear w/photos but I don't know how much value my review carries when it's the only riding gear I've ever used.

Go ahead and post a review. Good to know that the JR pant zipper drops. For nearly all of us here at ninjette (and I won't mention any names for the exceptions), running around with our zippers down is a bad thing. Might be you have other things that would be useful, too.

I started last year with all Joe Rocket gear, moving from the colder weather gear I'd had before to mesh for the tropics. Seemed of good quality for a good price. As I've ridden in it for the last 6 months, though, it has worn pretty quickly, and my initial satisfaction has waned. Getting some additional opinions on JR quality I think people would be interested in.

Just bought a new helmet, Bell Vortex Striker (yay, SNELL 2010) ~$99 with the transition SolFX shield ~$119. I used to work as an optician, so I have quite a bit of experience with transitions technology. Very excited to have it for my helmet.

Helmet came with the bike... Eventually, I would like an all white and black helmet when funds are a little more flexible.

I've got the plain flat black Vortex (pic is a few posts up). My quick review is that, for the price to get DOT & SNELL2010, it's nice. I think HJC makes some cheaper ones that have SNELL2010 but can't recall for sure. It's not the lightest helmet so it tends to weigh on my neck on longer rides. My 2 gripes are that it's a bit noisy at highway speeds and I really don't think the vents flow all that much. The chin vent is great, the vents above the visor and on top of the helmet don't see to flow that much at all. It's very comfortable. The noisiness is solved with a pair of ear plugs so that really is a non-issue for me at this point.

I really, really wanted the transitions shield but @ $120, that was 2/3 the cost of my helmet and I would've rather spent $400 on a Shoei or other higher-end helmet than just a shield. I bought the dark smoke and carry around my clear shield on the rides where I may not be home before dusk. Plus, at some point something is going to chip or scratch the visor and I'd be much more mad about chipping a $120 visor than a $40 visor.

Oops, yeah forgot to mention where. Yeah, I'll post up my thoughts when I get it. Here's web bike world's review:
http://www.webbikeworld.com/r2/motor...t/bell-vortex/

I was between the exo 500 and the vortex with the transitions shield. My wants for a helmet are price about $200-$250, no need to swap shields, and a Snell 2010 or ECE 22.05 certification. I didn't go with the 500 because in the case of my exo-1000 the drop down sun shield rattles when it's retracted so I thought I should try a different helmet brand this time.

It is a little strange buying a shield that is 121.2% more expensive than the helmet it's on. I figured it out though and it's the same as paying full price for the helmet and $40 for a pretty sweet shield. Then I don't need to swap shields, although from my understanding bell made it really easy to do anyway.

Yes, it's extremely easy.

Thanks guys, I'm still in the process of picking a new helmet, I went to our nearest motoshop and found the exo500, I'm liking it, the build quality and stuff, it's really a step up to my icon ssr. But I also have my eyes on the vortex for a while. mmmm choices, choices.

I recently started riding. Currently I have

1) Scorpion EXO-400 helmet.
2) Icon gloves
3) Scorpion NFS jacket.

I'm 5'11 and I weigh 115 pounds. I just cannot find anything that fits me. I'm a male but I'm thinner than most women. Anyway I plan to go to a nearby gear showroom to try things out. I think the Sportbiketrackgear store is an hour from me. Might be worth the trip to pick out fitting gear.

Motoport Ultra Trek Kevlar oversuit w/thermal liner.
Sidi ST Boots
A*s SMX-5 boots (backup pair)
Knox Handroid Race Gloves

Might try a pair of the Held Titan gloves...but I LOVE the Handroid wrist enclosure system!

Just ordered a KALI NAZA Carbon helmet to try.
