Just bought a new 2012 Ninja 250r
So I was finally able to go to the dealership and buy a new 2012 Ninja 250r!
I know a few of you are going to say that it's not good for a beginner to get a brand new Ninja 250r, and you guys have very valid points. BUT! I already got it, so please don't say that I should have gotten a used one because I'm a stubborn SOB who insisted that I get a new 250r because it's the last year in production for the US market. I know the what the consequences are, and you can tell me 'I told ya so!' all that you want after I **** something up. Oh and I want to build up my credit as well. I'm stuck on a few names for it. I was thinking Poison Ivy, Kermit, Gir, or Zim. I'm leaning more towards Poison Ivy because I feel like all of my vehicles are females. Edit: Scaled down the pictures because they were huge. Congrats on the new bike. I wouldn't regret buying a new bike as a starter bike, just ease into learning and don't get over-confident with turning and she'll treat you right.

Wait wait wait so you refer to yourself as a "beginner" but have previously owned a gsxr 600?
There's a story here involving crashing and I want to hear it. Also how dumb are you for getting a brand new bike jesus! haha just pulling your leg. Be good to your bike and yourself and ride defensively - that will take you a long way. Enjoy your new steed!

Congrats on the new bike, looks great. If you don't mind me asking what was you're OTD price and break down for bike, taxes, title, fees. I'm in the market for a new 2012 myself, so just trying to get some more data points. Thanks.

Congrats! I love the green! Make sure you keep an eye on the tire pressure. You'd be amazed at how so many people overlook tire pressure.
Now, try not to drop this one. LOL. The black side panels where your knee presses against will eventually rub your gas tank and cut into the paint. Also, from prolong leg squeezing the tank, the front fairing will press against the tank thus rubbing away at the paint. This is because the black side panel at the very front is attached to the front fairing. Not sure how else to describe it. I believe @DaBlue1 or another member suggested to me that I cut some clear tubing and line the black panel to prevent it from rubbing the tank.

Nice upgrade from the gixxer! Personally, I like buying bikes brand new over used just so you know the entire history of the bike. Owning it since 0miles really makes it yours too!
I like the Poison Ivy name too. I don't think I could name my bike after a dude...

Congrats on the bike!
I read your story about the GSXR and I think getting a 250 was a very smart thing to do. You're gonna have a blast. |

Thanks! I plan on having a lot of fun on this bike. I'm looking at cheap mods that I could possibly do to it. Mostly visual stuff at this point since they're the cheapest!
Anyways for now I'm looking for nice tank pad. Not sure what else that I want. |

Sweet new bike!
One of the last brand new 250s, makes me sad for some reason. I guess since you won't be seeing them brand new ever again just seems strange to me. Very nice bike and color. I don't fault you for buying new. It's in perfect shape and condition. And buying new at this time wasn't a ton more than a used with low miles. The dealerships are really trying to get rid of the 250s right now. My dealership has a nice black 2012 for $3499! Not sure on fees though, maybe another $400-500? You'll just have to be careful, but being careful is important with new and used bikes to me. I don't want to drop either. |

You can always do the fender chop, it's free and gets rid of that thing hanging off the back

I don't mind the big ugly thing cause I hardly have to see it! The obsession over fender eliminators is pretty crazy these days.

My biggest annoyance with fender eliminators is that on some bikes you have to remove SO MUCH to change something so minor.

Yeah, but some people see it as a chance to get in there and see what's going on. Which is probably why I would do it.

I'm going to keep that fender in for a little while. I personally don't mind it too much right now. It most likely will come off at a later date, but just not yet though.
So far first on the list of mods: Tank Pad Red LED light strips somewhere (Trying to make this a Poison Ivy theme and she has red hair) Fender eliminator later on down the line A long ways down the line mods: Full exhaust system (maybe yoshi because I like them) EFI (maybe not sure on this yet) and other performance related mods |

Don't get too cocky. 4000 miles isn't that much. I had my first lowside at around 10,000 miles experience. **** happens and a million miles under your belt might not prevent it. The point of people saying don't start on a new bike is that it's more money lost if/when you eventually do have an accident. All in all it comes down to personal preference, OP wanted a new bike and he got one, it's not anyone's business to say whether it was right or wrong. The fact of the matter is if he is involved in an accident at some point and totals the bike, that's 4-5k lost vs 2-3k from a used bike.

Congratulations man, exactly like mine when I bought it except mine had 1500 miles on it. Remember ATGATT and don't do like I did when I first got it and set it down on the kickstand, except you know, the kickstand wasn't fully engaged.

I don't think i am impervious, however I don't see any problems buying a bike new as long as you get good insurance. $2000 or $10,000, doesn't matter, if you have good insurance that will cover the cost of repair or replacement. Granted your insurance will be much higher on a $10,000 bike than a $2000 one. I just see a lot of people on here giving newb's crap for buying a bike brand new. I bought new because of the warranties and I wanted 0 miles on the bike when I got it. Buy used piece of crap off of craigslist and your just flipping a coin on the condition. Anyone can make the outside look nice, but the engine could be on its last leg, then your stuck with a non working bike that you threw 2 grand on. Happened to a friend of mine. Bike looked great, and he rode it home, once home the bike never started again. He ended up having to have it overhauled and it cost him the same amount he paid for it. Person selling it had done something to it just so it would start and take off, enough to get the money and run. Cars I will never buy new, but bikes are a different matter in my mind. just my 2 cents
