Lightbulb My $2.49 crankcase filter =)

I went to Autozone after picking my girls up from school. (They LOVE going in auto parts stores to look at all the customizing stuff )
I picked up an inline fuel filter for my fuel line and thought about my crankcase hose needing a breather pod. I saw one there for $9.99 by K&N that should work well, then I noticed something interesting in with the universal fuel filters. I picked it up and brought it home to try it out. PERFECT FIT! And super small.
Items used:
  • OEM crankcase hose that went from the crankcase to the original airbox
  • Part number FF1106DL
  • Half of a "cotton round" (from wifes makeup area) or part of a gauze pad

End result is a snug fitting DIY filter on the cheap!

When I did the fuel injection conversion on my 2005 project bike I installed a K&N 0990 air filter. I took a short piece of 3/8 inch rubber tubing and stuck it into the crankcase breather, then I drilled a hole in the hard rubber backside of the K&N 0990 filter and I press-fit the other end of the rubber tubing into it.

My reasoning for doing it this way was that the crankcase breather was connected to the OEM airbox in the stock configuration, which means the Kawasaki engineers intended for the crankcase vent to be subjected to the slight negative pressure (intake vacuum pull) that develops in the airbox when the engine is operating.

I picked up a breather from advance for $10. Looks like a mini pod filter. I snipped off the top curve, since it wouldn't fit and put it over that so the pod faces out. Looks pretty good and functions well
