Talking Changed my workout

Well, normally I am the cycling guy. I really enjoy it, but it can be a pain to get all the gear on and gather up all I need. Sometimes a simple approach is just as good.

I did that this morning. I just got back from doing some of my old soccer drills. I know I am not good at long distance running, but even my short distance struggles on occasion (ok, I admit, I get bored just running in one direction for long periods). I figured my old intervals would help strengthen a good amount of my body that cycling does not reach.

I did typical suicides. First run was about 10-yds and back, then 20-yds, 30-yds, and 40-yds. I then worked my way back again.

I did an 8-point octagon interval. This is basically it (except double the distances):

Link to original page on YouTube.

I also did a few multi-directional drills. I did some box drills where I'd run about 10-yds, then sidestep for about 10, run backwards 10, then sidestep 10 and repeat. I also did some hybrid stuff where I would work in more directional changes and work on my cutting.

I am sore, and I WILL feel this when I get up this afternoon.

I normally don't feel much when I cycle (even over 60-miles), but this I will feel, big time. I know it will get me when I climb the stairs after getting to work tonight.

EDIT: Adding blog post link here

I'm a long distance runner (5K) so I may give this a try for my cross training.
