They usually have a Nascar stinker on their SUV stating they are drafting.

I know what you mean. In California it's often the SUVs and lady BMW drivers that don't pay enough attention. Not that all of us are like that, but I think I know what you mean.

Truck drivers here are the worst. Not big rigs, just the average joe in his pick up.

I can say that drivers of big rigs are the best mannered with which I share the freeway.

Drivers of small pick up trucks tend to be civil, but most of males driving big pick up trucks are aggressive.

One thing on their favor is that they seem to be skillful.

I was actually tailgated by a lady in a Jeep today. Around here though, I find more men like to do rolling stops through stop signs or barely slowing down at all.

No offense to the ladies that can actually driver properly but...

female + SUV =

It seems to be any large vehicle really. I would imagine it makes them feel "invincible" so they dive like they own the roads.

I personally think women are more "emotional" drivers compared to men. If they are in a bad mood it is more likely to manifest in their driving behavior, i.e., driving aggressively when they are mad.

Not saying men won't do the same thing, I just think it happens more with females.

i kinda feel the opposite... men are typically more agressive drivers from my perspective... more likely to take offense during driving ... more likely to road rage... women use vehicles as an outlet for anger less often than men i think. though, because of that they seem to spend a little bit more time multitasking then agressive pissed off men... but i'm not sure which is worse, driving slow and not paying attention, or driving fast and crashing into people

I am sure it depends on a whole lot of stuff.

I just know around my area by far women seem to "stick out" on the road. What I mean by that is anytime I am behind someone and they drive "odd" (swerving, too slow, too fast, etc.) it damn near 99% of the time is a female driver.

If by "aggressive" you mean "fast" then I do not doubt men probably do it more often.

The major thing is I don't notice it on the road, or at least don't feel "threatened" by it and thus don't pay attention to it.

I personally believe multi-tasking while driving is way more dangerous. I tend to take my driving seriously, and what I mean is that I try to dedicate as much as my focus to the road as possible and because of that I generally regard myself as a better than average driver.

However, I have driven while trying to multi-tasking, like texting on the phone to try and meet someone somewhere, and just overall not giving my 100% to the road and I have had by far the most near-accidents during those times.

Recently I had to meet a friend somewhere in a bit of a hurry and in the 10-15 minutes it took to get me there I almost got into 3 different accidents because I kept fiddling with the damn phone.

Hell, that alone was enough to make me refuse to touch my phone if the car is moving.

In my opinion the most important aspect of driving, on the street at least, is paying full attention to the road at all times.

That one moment you lose focus is all it takes to get into an accident.

i agree and maybe i can explain my meaning a bit further. when someone is driving aggressively fast because of anger/compromised emotional state, typically they are people who don't always drive fast. people who always drive fast don't drive fast when they are emotionally compromised. people who are detached, fast drivers are not an issue. i drive quickly when i drive a car. but i am not emotional. if i am, i slow down or don't drive. normally, i simply prefer driving fast because my time is precious to me. i don't focus on the asshole who just cut me off.
when people are road raging they are not paying attention. they are trying to get in front of someone so they can cut them off or block them to feel vindicated. you are about as unaware as you would be messing with your phone. do women get road rage? absolutely. do men mess with their phones/stereos? absolutely. do men more frequently react in extreme cases to road rage? in my experience, yes. and i believe that is probably the result of testosterone.

Totally true...I even had a lady in a BMW actually have road rage and try and actually run me off the road because I lane splitted past her 2 lights prior when it was stopped traffic. I was thinking about following behind her to get her plate # and report her but she probably would have slammed on the brakes and I may have gotten hurt. Suffice to say I had to use the shoulder on the freeway to get away from her and get a good distance. This was on my Bonneville too so I had a lot of torque and power to get away from her relatively easy. It also helped that it was rush hour and the freeway was somewhat congested (but not traffic jammed) and I was able to get away easily.

I did note it was a copper color 3 series or 5 series and to look out for her around my area.

I've noticed that women tend to drive more aggressively than guys do. They won't let you merge in front of them, even if you have your signal on. Male drivers are usually more aware of their surroundings and I find that they move over more frequently to allow me to lane split.

I agree on the emotional part as well. My wife is usually a sweet person, but the road rage gets her easily. Someone cuts her off and she gets pretty mad. I have to remind her to let it go. It's like driving makes women bi-polar.

I completely agree.

It could be younger men and older women drive like asshats and inversely older men and younger women drive more carefully? No idea.

I very rarely see younger people (around my age) drive on the road as I assume most are in school or something.

All I know is that whenever I was in the car with my mother driving... I was always a bit leery. I could easily tell when she was pissed 'cause she would drive more recklessly.

And now that I think about it I have never seen my dad drive recklessly due to his emotions.

None of this really means anything, just my experiences.

My personal experiences agree with the survey... And I wonder how high the percentage actually is since this is based on people admitting that they tailgate.
My worst experience is still with a male in a big F250 though. Blocked me from lane splitting with his truck in rush hour traffic.

you know for the first few days in florida, i could have sworn ghosts were driving these oldsmobiles and doing an extremely poor job at it. i realized later that they were just shrunken old people who couldn't see over the steering wheel. the people i was staying with called them "no-headed drivers"

I believe that scarce use of the horn is a phenomenon unique to USA.

Bold statement since we have over 4 top tracks and a 400 mile drag strip called I-95 where most people think that's the speed limit.

You must be refering to south Florida where everyone is actually from New York or New Jersey.

For the record, the average American gets into an automobile accident once every 7 years...unless you live in DC, where you're chances increase to every 4 years. Ah, statistically the worst drivers in the country..

Drivers are on the whole pretty good here, the only type I can label with "bad drivers" are.

Hire cars "that have a big H plate on the back to let you know, it's H for hire or horror car" they are bad because they have no idea of road markings specific to my area such as a filter, which is a junction that everyone aproaching from every angle has equal priority and you take it in turns based on who arived first then you take it in turns if you're queued up.

And "white van man" and taxis, they think they have inherently more right to be on the roads then you because they pay a commercial licence to be there, you're on their domain, they will take priority at junctions, run orange lights without fail, glide past stop signs, oark wherever they want.

Old people - nuff said

Some women, most are good drivers, they tend to dither and do things too timidly and slow which can be as dangerious are doing things fast.

Portuguese - they typically drive without insurance, too fast and drunk, with a blatent disregard in traffic law, not a week goes by where you don't see one in the newspaper listed going to court for a traffic offence.

If someone is getting too close ill lose that car right away. I won't risk staying infront of them even if i keep an eye on them.

You must be refering to south Florida where everyone is actually from New York or New Jersey.
400 mile drag strip with 80% of it under construction 95% of the time.........

A nice little trick I use when a car is getting too close is to do a few quick counter stear swirves, when they see you spread out a bit in the road and lean left to right they seem to get the idea they are probably too close and fall back, I normally tap my brake a couple times after too so the light flashes at them and I get a little closer to them so they really get the idea.

In North America, that works rarely in my experience. It seems more likely to PO an already aggressive driver. It's a game of chicken I certainly wouldn't try on bike vs. a car. Best bet really is to just pull over if safe or let them pass.

We actually have road chaperones that drive in the fast lane under the speed limit while talking on the phone (most likely to the authorities). Then when it's there exit they wait until the last possible moment then dive bomb the exit.

We also have those here. And when they miss the exit, they like to reverse down the side of the highway.

Lol, being facetious I assume?

Reminds me of when I left work last night, as I pulled onto the main road in the left lane, there were 2 cars in front of me, 1 in each lane (4 lane road).

Right as I pulled out, the guy in the furthest right lane went across all lanes of traffic making a left turn, and the guy in front of me cut across making a right turn.

I'll put it this way. When I get behind a Floridian driving in Ga, I usually know they are from Florida before I can see their tag. I always find it funny when I confirm as I'm passing them.
And I'd say this whole damn thread makes a "bold" statement against us female Ninjetters who also have to drive sometimes, wouldn't you say? :P

haha. but ninjette not suv! tbh some of the better skilled riders i get to race with are women. i've got a lot of respect for the fact that it doesn't take a set of balls to really have a pair... if you know what i mean. especially considering i can't catch most of them. :P
