how do my sprockets look

Hey i just took off my front sprocket cover clean and check ,i have 21500km on them now just wondering how there looking.How long do they last and if mine have to be changed or still have alot of km left on them.

A different bike, but you can see the difference between old and new when I replaced mine. Don't wait this long. I'm an idiot and got stranded 100 miles into the next state.



Okay, seriously.....don't ever do this...but you'd probably have a hard time if you tried to do it on purpose. It's caused by a bad chain, not normal wear.

Ok thanks guys Iam only asking because my buddy change his @20000km,I looked at New sprockets on here and they looked the same, just like to change stuff before i have to so I don't get left somewhere with a broken bike.I guess 10 000km to go then check again

A easy way to check chain stretch and sprocket wear is to try to pull the chain on the rear sprocket straight back away from the bike and see how much the chain lifts off of the sprocket. Hard to describe in words, but easy to see. Any more lift than a few millimeters is no good, it means the chain is toast and the sprocket tooth valleys have widened.
Shown is a extreme example of this.
