wow, anyone else's tracks have such limits? FWIW NY Safety Track initially said it would be limited to 250cc maximum.

is it a long fast track like a Daytona or something/?

It's Knockhill Race Track, heres an image of it

I tried reasoning with them but they are pretty strict on the matter apparently :\

doesn't seem like it would be much fun on a 250 anyway. with those long straights and hairpin. are there no other tracks around?

I would be so pissed if this happened to me, sounds like you need to find a smaller track

Wow, that sucks... the track is only 1.3 miles long. Sure, there is alot of straight there but that short of track is going to lend itself to a point and shoot bike for fast lap times. Looks like they may be a bit concerned about closing speeds as well. The speeds identified on that track map are kinda low though imho for it to be a huge concern. I get passed at 165mph on my 250 at Mid-Ohio. meh....

Bottom line, their track... their choice. Sounds like an excuse to get a 450 sumo.

Surprised that a track only 1.3 miles long has a 400cc limit.
The track I ride at is 1.8 and we see everything from kids learning on 100cc bikes to 1,200 Panigales. Anything over 500cc though is basically a waste as you can't use the power for more than a second or two

Knockhill is the only track in my country (Scotland), 142 miles away, the next closest track is in england at 321miles. I suppose its not that far if you make a weekend of it. Il need to check the rules with that track.

I was curious about this so I did a quick google. In the first pic you can see some of the tracks across the UK, a bit more than I thought at first actually (I knew about half of them from watching BSB). And your right that most of them are located in the bottom half of the UK in lower England.

I wanted to compare that to where I live (outside of Austin, TX) in the second pic. In the space of the area of the UK, we have about 7 tracks vs the 19 or so listed here for comparable land mass. It does kinda stink though that there are quite a few but they are all on the other end of the country from you.

I do, it sucks, the track scene up here is quite dead, my step dad and his two brothers are into bikes, his brothers do track days at knockhill but go no further.

Haha i like the little mock UK , even added a wee ireland in there

It's a shame theres only the 1 track in Scotland, theres potentially a bit of money to be made as motorbikes up here are as common as everywhere else. How far do you usually travel average to ride the tracks?

I get it that cc's are an easy rule to enforce but what's the chance of an SR400 chasing down a ninjette? Same as turtles learning to fly tomorrow?

It depends but generally around 250 miles to get to a tracks I can ride in north DFW or South Houston. TWS was closer in CS at right around 100 miles but will be gone in May. H2R is close at 45 miles but members only and COTA is 30 miles but 500 a day - neither I can afford to do lol.

H2R might be members only, but it is extremely easy to get an "invite for the day" which will cost you $150. All you have to do is ask a track member (like me) and they will help you out. You ride from 10-4 with no sessions, so you can ride as much as you want to.

PM me if you need more details

Check my sig, "closest track". Thompson is just across the line in CT. Get with Tony's Track Days to go there. Let adouglas, Ducati999 and me know when you're going.

Thompson is very close to you. You also have NHMS, and NYST for the time being. And dont forget, they will be opening one in Palmer Mass this spring. Thompson is 2 hours from me and i was happy with that, Palmer will be 90 min, i cant wait.

Lol, yea... I felt the same way about KY until this year. Like WTF!!!! We will race anything down here and yet we have no track except for nascar. But I guess the nascar track takes care of just about 99% of rednecks anyway.
