Ninja 250r Fuel pump

Good day people.
New to this forum apologies if this question has been asked.

I'm in need of a new fuel pump for my 250r 2012 or 13 model.
Kawasaki sells them in Cape Town for about R12000.00 which is very expensive.

Question: are there any aftermarket fuel pumps or cheaper fuel pumps one can use?

It looks like my only option will be to get it from ebay. Thank you DannoXYZ.
Although it looks like a used pump but it still beats the price of a new pump from Kawasaki which is like half the price value of my bike.

Used pumps may be questionable. Only get from breakers with money-back guarantee if it doesn't meet specifications.

You can also look into quality aftermarket pumps. Kemso and Quantum are good as well as OEM Mitsubishi.

I might just come right with an aftermarket pump from a dealer in Cape town which is convenient.
The Kemso and Quantum you mentioned doesn't look close to the fuel pump currently installed on my bike.

It comes down to selecting correct model for your bike. Do you have Amazon there? These are available from Amazon. Strainer sock may be different.

Should also test FPR. Most of time, what appears to be fuel-pump problem is actually defective FPR.

Yeah, carefully take that assembly apart and you'll find just pump mechanism that needs to be replaced.

You have "fuel pump assembly" which usually contains "fuel pump" mechanism/motor itself, along with mounting flange and seal, fuel-level sender and some wiring.

I recently had to replace "fuel pump assembly" on my track CBR600RR due to insufficient flow. As confirmed by doing fuel-pump flow test:

I hated idea of throwing away most of perfectly working parts just because pump motor itself was bad. So I disassembled the housing and extracted pump mechanism and replaced only that with new part.

My Ford Taurus now has an access port under the rear seat, and a new pump. I repaired the old one as you described, and it's in a box in the trunk. Now if I have a fuel pump problem I can pull over and swap pumps in a few minutes.

Danny, thank you so much for this. I didn't realize the actual pump is inside that plastic housing and that can be replaced. I thought the whole unit needs replacing.

I'll get to it as soon as possible and let you guys know how it went.

That's so awesome! I really miss days when pumps were outside of tanks, so much easier to deal with!

Also test fuel-pressure in rail. A lot of times, pump is perfectly fine, but FPR is clogged and you won't get proper pressure.

Hey guys. After many months I got the new Quantum fuel pump however my problem still persist. I can open up the the throttle and then the engine takes a long time to ref up as if fuel flow is disrupted. Do yo guys know if there is a fuel filter somewhere?

I would put a gauge on the line to check fuel pressure.

More than any other part I've heard of, aftermarket fuel pumps tend to be bad, mostly because they do not provide adequate fuel pressure to the injector.

I might be dealing with this in my van right now. My fuel pump has been screaming like a banshee since the shop needlessly replaced it last year… all because I told them to IGNORE the broken fuel sender that they used to excuse themselves from a much-needed test drive after a previous service (claimed my tank was empty).

The new pump is sometimes so loud I have to shut the van off to communicate in the drive thru. More than once other people likened the ringing sound to the one EVs and hybrids make at low speed to alert pedestrians… and I had the exact same thought independently (before). The shop refuses to acknowledge anything is wrong as long as it’s still pumping even though I have a P0171 lean code that wasn’t there before. I thought I finally fixed it a week ago when I found a pinhole in a vacuum cap but I replaced it and the problem came back last night (P0171 + check engine light). The noisy fuel pump or a bad fuel pressure regulator is the next most likely culprit. If it isn’t pushing enough fuel then, yes, it will run lean.

They claim the noise is because they tried to save me money with a cheap pump and “cheap pumps are just noisy.” but that was a lie. I dug up my receipt and found that they charged me EXACTLY what Rock Auto charges for an OEM fuel pump from GM ($210 part only), which is an order of magnitude more than the “cheap” ones on the same site. Confirmed: These guys sold me a cheap pump I didn’t want or need at an OEM price, pocketed the difference, and can’t even claim the markup is for “sh*t happens” warranty/overhead since they won’t stand behind it.
