Wow and I thought that 70 MPG was the best we could expect.

The difference between 65 and 70 mph is significant, let alone 65 and 80. Cruising at 65 all freeway I would get around 68 mpg. Of course it takes more time to get to your destination.

on this hot night, i went about 70ish and it was a nice breeze till i hit stinky milpitas.

I filled up tonight with for 2.7 gallons and with 125 miles on the odometer and got 46mpg. going 90 mph is pretty much killing my gas mileage.

They had to mod it to get that gas mileage. The only bike I know that can pull that off is the CRF250. I'm guessing they tweaked it for gas mileage. Reducing the amount of air going in, and adjusting the jets, etc.

I've hit 70mpg before, but wow. Maybe he was in 6th cruising at 40mph all day.

I was about to call BS....

But then I read his post...

http://ecomodder.com/forum/showthrea...50-a-8686.html

The mods are minor, it's the driving style that does it IMO.

there's the part about EOC, which is Engine Off Coasting, and DWB--Driving Without Brakes.

Also, driving under the speed limit...using top gear at low speeds.

I'm willing to believe he did it.

It doesn't sound like much fun, though....I doubt I'd have the resolve to stick to the hypermiling style of riding...

Sounds like the same principles as "hypermiling" in hybrids. Sure you can pull 80-90mpg out of a Honda Civic Hybrid (instead of 40mpg) using EOC and DWB, but it'll drive most people nuts.

I took my daughter's Civic Hybrid on the freeway when it was brand new and went like 50mph in the slow lane as an experiment and did indeed bump the mileage to 60+mpg, but it was aggravating. I don't worry about mileage anymore in that car. It is what it is.

Same for the bike. If I take it out, it'll be whatever it will be. No use hypermiling and getting steamrolled by a cager on the phone or something

OH, and sorry, props to theycallmeebryan for the achievement. I am not trying to take anything away from him. If hypermiling is his game, more power

CycleWorld supposedly got 72.x MPG seemingly without even trying in their tests of a pre-gen (Petrol Pinchers article).

so is it a bad thing that im averaging around 43mpg? As for my riding style, i generally keep the shifts at 4-5k rpms but i ride at 10k in 6th on the freeway. Is the freeway whats affecting my mileage?

Pulse and glide on the ninja would get insane MPG if used properly. I get the best MPG when I average 90-100 KM/h...65+ MPG.

Jeebus. And here I was all impressed about averaging 56mpg doing 85 on the freeway for 5 hours... with a 65lb duffle bag strapped to the tail.

I've never seen more than 60. Usually I get around 45-50. 14/47 sprockets though.

I've seen 81mpg once, just trying to see if I could push it high. It was a stretch of 29 North of Austin, riding at about 60mph enjoying the scenery. If I went hipermiler on it, I could probably go higher, but I'm not an extreme geek about mileage.

I barely mustered 50MPG again. It's only the second time I've done so and I had to ride in the slow lanes and stick to 50MPH and under to do it.
