Royal Enfield's Rumored 750 Interceptor is on the Way

The long-rumored Royal Enfield 750 Interceptor will reportedly be unveiled at the 2017 EICMA show in November. According to Overdrive.in, the actual model name is expected to be the Continental GT 750, although it seems unlikely that Royal Enfield would forego using the former label of the company’s standard bearer of the Seventies. Perhaps the Interceptor badge will be reserved for a more sporting roadster version in the works.

In any case, the most current spy shots from India now show the 750cc parallel twin equipped with electronic fuel injection. The right side engine covers have been changed to a more traditionally rounded British shape with the Royal Enfield script engraved. Like the prototype photos seen last year, the new 750 retains a standard telescopic fork, reservoir shocks, and single disc brakes at each wheel. The front disc is larger than the earlier model, but is apparently equipped with the same twin-piston caliper. The oil cooler appears to be smaller, and is now flush with the outside of the frame tubes. The latest mule retains a solo seat, but now has an upswept grab bar at the rear of the subframe.

The report indicates that the 750 frame is substantially upgraded from the GT 535, and that ABS will be standard. The company is expected to launch the Continental GT in Europe by the end of the year, and in India early in 2018.

The company has not released any prices for the 750, and while it will surely be higher than the single cylinder model, the bottom line is expected to be significantly lower than other 750 twins on the market - namely the Ducati Monster 797 and Harley-Davidson Street 750.


While it's not yet clear if or when the new model will reach the United States, or whether it will be available only through current Royal Enfield dealers or in cooperative dealerships, it does seem certain the twin will arrive soon.
