He was signaling that he was entering the pits. It is slightly disconcerting that you don't realize this.

Ahh, that makes much more sense! Concerned comment withdrawn!

I'm a fan of grabbing-the-tail-section-of-the-bike-passing-you method

Agreed, a follow me signal

More importantly, what kind of rinky dink track day org allows 2-up riding at the same time as other groups... see 12:30

I've always seen the "follow-me" signal as stiff-armed reach back with wrist-flick tapping of hand on back-seat.

All that's needed to complete the slap-horse's-ass gesture is a cowboy hat!!!

Yeah, it's a parody of the cowboy flank slap from westerns -- doesn't look anything like a 'follow me' signal. Also, re: two up. I've seen that done with the rider being a staff member (e.g. demonstrate things to the passenger), I've also seen it done to 'recover' people who had a minor down or mechanical failure and get them back into the pits.

Yeah, we have 2-ups all the time. Usually have to be familiar to organizer. Lots of liabilities involved for everyone and a lot of groups no longer allow it. This particular one had buffer rider behind 2-up to keep people safe distance away.

Shrugs. I've seen many organizations do this, either for giving rides to people who don't ride or to show a novice/intermediate rider how much faster they can go. Often, it's an ex-AMA level rider, so they're not exactly holding anyone up.

We’ll see what the rules are for next season. There’s big lawsuit against track day provider, the track itself and their insurance company over a 2-up injury. Depending upon outcome, bottom line may be insurance co. may refuse to cover any event that has 2-up.

Keigwins was last organizer that allowed participant 2-ups, and they’ve pulled plug on that recently, before lawsuit has concluded.

That is quite interesting. Is that case in California? On the east coast, several of the trackday providers are still doing 2-up rides. I just moved to California, and never heard of concerns with 2-up rides in the east. Are there anymore details on the incident?

Yes, California. Might have more spoiled, litigious, clueless brats than other areas... No sense of personal responsibility. Whenever something goes wrong, it's always someone else's fault!!!
