Auto chain oiler?
The know-it-all at work tells me my bike should have a chain oiler, rather than having to lube the chain but I've never seen anything about one. Do they have them? Do the new ones?
I know there's an after-market one available but that's not what's in discussion. |

Scottoiler a very useful piece of kit especially if you live in a dusty environment when the chain needs more attention than normal.

Right, I've seen after-market ones but nothing about a factory one.
Do the new ones come with oilers? (I like Mr. Know-It-All, but he takes a particular truth and extrapolates it too widely. His bikes have had oilers, therefor "all" bikes do. I disagree with him on this.) |

I don't know of any production bikes that come with OEM chain oilers. Everyone I've known with one has loved it, but there are far more people who just partake in regular chain maintenance and do just fine.

Yeah I'm fairly certain Kawasaki doesn't make one. Does Mr. Knowitall even ride? Most of the time, Mr. Knowitall doesn't ride or only used to ride (meaning he got a 600, got scared, let it sit for a year, then sold it).

I know my 1972 Kawasaki H2 came with a chain oiler, but it was removed before I bought it in 1978. With O-ring and X-ring chains, the need for steady oil is greatly reduced though, so I wouldn't think it would be worth the mess.

My current favorite is Maxima Chain Wax. It's less sticky than oil or grease when it dries.

Love it, actually tried the blue multi-purpose version of it and wasn't a fan of that version. Maybe a bad can but didn't seem like the same stuff.

The multi-purpose version used to be a dry wax, like posted in the picture, that was great for chains but they changed the formula so it isn't amazing anymore. Not a dry wax anymore. The chain saver is very close to what the multi-purpose was originally.

Modern O-ring chains don't need an oiler IMHO, old school non O-ring chain do.
The spray lube is good enough if done on a regular basis. I myself use the DuPont stuff, and have for several years now. DuPont Teflon Chain-Saver Dry Self-Cleaning Lubricant, 11-Ounce https://www.amazon.com/dp/B001B0VDC2..._4E9IzbXQ8PXM8 If you love to spend money I'll give you my PayPal info

"O" ring chain or not the rollers and sprockets require regular lubricant. I have never seen an auto chain oiler that was worth a s--t. If you're too lazy to oil your chain take the bus. I'll take your Pay Pal info, I'd love to spend YOUR money :-). In fact, I need a new TV. Bill |

I tried the DuPont Chainsaver and have been satisfied with it. Maybe I got a bad can, it seems to ooze from the nozzle while it sprays and my finger gets messy and it runs down the can, but it dries kind of waxy and doesn't collect dirt like other lubes do, and it's 0-ring safe, something very few lubricants are.

Seen someone tie something similar as this thing (but a slight bigger) to his Versys about 8 years ago. He would sometimes reaches down (while riding) and pinch the thing to get his chains lubricated. Cheapskate but creative.

Why a non-O-ring chain on a streetbike? What is the perceived advantage in performance, chain life, or something else?
