If people are wondering how they are attached:

Just to let people know, these are mainly used for racing as you can tell, they don't extend out far like other known frame sliders.

Actually I think that is a gixxer but from what I have seen with LSL, they all come with a similar plate which is called the "crash pad" which reinforce it on there.

Also, if you look closely at the 2nd pic:

You can actually see the "crash pad" which the frame slider to attached to.

i know a few guys that have them on there zx10's. they seem to think the shorter design keeps them from bending and/or breaking.

Do these things really do anything except to bend the frame when it goes down?

I've seen a few bikes for sale that had sliders, and all of them had trashed fairings and the mounts for the sliders were bent. To me it doesn't look like they are really very much more than a peace of mind item.

Read my entry in the Wiki. If a slider mount bends before it breaks off, that's what it's supposed to do. If a frame slider mount bends the FRAME before the slider itself gets ripped off, I would argue that it's over engineered.

The whole point of the slider is "Sacrificial Lamb". Much cheaper and more appropriate to break off the slider and ruin the plastics than for the slider to survive but total out the bike with a tweaked frame.

hmmm the sato frame sliders and others that extend out kinda long... ive wondered if they would also 'help' your knee/leg from getting CRUSHED during a lowside fall... and slide? Look at the VIDEO about that kid in AZ. 'ItsReload' and how his knee was messed up. It looked like the bike crushed his left knee. So aside from saving the bikes engine and stuff... wouldnt these help from your leg/knee getting CRUSHED too.. a lil maybe?

(considering your wearing some armored riding pants, and have some Knox Knee Cross Guards on. Or something also mixed in for shin/knee/leg protection) ***

Well these are made this short to protect the frame and frame only because the shorter frame sliders are for racing applications. These are made so they don't get caught on the road and make the bike flip and ish causing more damage than could have happened.

these aren't available for the 250r yet. I called and they said at least 3 months before they have a kit for the american version.

I thought the whole point was to protect the fairing. Otherwise what are you spending all that money for?

...you WANT the slider to snap off, to prevent the bike from flipping. A repairable side slide is preferable to a flipped bike that gets totaled from a tweaked frame/fork/swing arm caused by the slider not breaking off and pogo-ing the bike...

The intention is to help protect the frame. They were never intended to save much fairing damage, but in slow-speed or low-impact drops, sometimes they can end up saving some cosmetic damage. Our ninjette has such a thin and light frame, and it's inset so much from the outer plastic fairings, that it's challenging to find a solid mounting point compared to bikes with more standard twin-spar frames wrapped around the engine.
