Milky oil, junk in coolant
Hey Yall,
I just got an 01 ninja 250 for a quad project, had to fix an electrical gremlin or two but now it starts and runs acceptably given that i don't have the airbox. After running it for a minute or two, i realized that the oil in the sight glass was milky, so i drained it all out and it looks like chocolate milk, but the crankcase was not overfull. there was also pieces of what looked to be disintegrated rubber in the oil filter and some of the oil i drained out So naturally next i took off the radiator cap, and saw no oil floating around, drained the coolant, and it has no oil in it and looks good aside from the same trash floating in the overflow tank that was floating in the nasty oil I have a hard time believing that the bike would run as good as it does and sound as healthy as it does with a bad head or head gasket so i'm really leaning towards the seal on the waterpump disintegrating, i took it partially apart and there's no play on the impeller however. anybody seen this happen before or know of any faults known with these bikes that may cause this before i go having to tear down the whole engine chasing whatever problem it is? |

Greetings and Salutations AJ!!!
Do compression to verify headgasket integrity. Sure could be water-pump seal. Pull it out and let's take a look! |

When was the last time the oil was changed? How long did the sit without running? The small rubber pieces, was any silicone sealant used?

No idea when any of the fluids were last changed as the bike is new to me, based on the little i do know about it i can guess its been a while, i do know it sat for a long time without running as the prior owner had it apart to do a cafe build
I attached a couple pictures of the water pump seal on the back, it looks fine to me, i don't have a compression tester so i'll have to run out and get one soon but it runs well on both cylinders with no smoke or anything, but i'll do a compression test soon anyway |

My 2¢,
I'd try changing the oil, and see if it still does it it could be a case of old oil, etc... before you tear things apart. And anyway it should have been already.

Yeah i'm with you on that one, I think imma just put new oil and coolant in it, put it all back together, run it for a bit and see if it ruins new oil or not
