What you did is very dangerous.

At night your view ahead is reduced to the range of your headlight.

At 100 mph, you cover 146 feet per each second.

You were very lucky that no obstacles were in your blind trajectory.

Not to mention, what exactly was going in the bar before deciding it would be fun to hit triple-digits for the first time at night?

You've gotta be careful man... Better to take her to a track and be prepared for the worst, then be surprised at night time (maybe after a few brews?) and not ride again.

I don't think I will ever push the limits of the bike or myself at night ever again. I crashed once doing that and luckily escaped without any serious injuries. Can't say the same for my bike. I was out riding my headlight and my own skill level.

Some of us have to learn things the hard way though. Be safe man!

Not after being utterly exhausted and THEN spending a few hours at a bar with friends. No, most everyone has not done this.

errrr well the reason i decided to push it is becuz there was a truck about a fourth mile in front of me. he was the only other person on the road and he had passed me doing about one ten. i let him get a good ways past me and used his lights to see what was coming...at the time i didn't feel that it was unsafe at all or else i wouldn't have been so excited about it...not trying to promote bad riding habits or anything....and i was in 6th maybe i just too fat....and FYI...i dont drink lol... cigarettes are my only vice right now :P

Hey James, if you ride a Ninja 250, you can not be a horrible person.

Having a truck leading your way certainly made the conditions less dangerous.

I was thinking of this thread last night while I was riding at 1:00 am on a very dark road and nobody else was around.
I used the high beam for a while and, yes, I could have pushed it much more.
I didn't do it because I see a lot of road kill over that area in the mornings.

Having some fun while taking chances doesn't make you a bad rider.

Mike,

At least one state's traffic law disagree with your logic about high beam usage.

In Florida and during night hours, the use of high beams is prohibited for all vehicles, including motorcycles, in the following conditions:

1) Whenever the driver of a vehicle approaches an oncoming vehicle within 500 feet.

2) Whenever the driver of a vehicle approaches another vehicle from the rear within 300 feet.

For all the states, headlight modulators can't operate during night hours or even inside tunnels.
Those must have a light sensor that automatically disables them in reduced daylight conditions.

Those must have a light sensor that automatically disables them in reduced daylight conditions.
who cares. people break laws all the time.

i guarantee you that if you aim your bright down a little bit, and ride with it, no cop will ever know, but you, cause you will see better and farther.

brights on a bike are not the same as a car. if a cop was to pull you over for that, WOW... it would probably never happen.
