The red tide bloom is definitely something we're also concerned about. It's discussed in classes but I'm not sure anyone at my university is researching it yet. The University of Washington more than likely has a lot of research directed towards it but I think it's something that more biologists should be focused on. I'll bring that up to my lab instructor once he's back from break for sure! I know there are a few people at my university that are focusing on genome sequencing of plankton and studying their effects on the marine ecosystem.
