GSXR shock swap questions

So I have gone through countless GSXR shock threads and still can't make up my mind if it is something I should do or not.

Is the mod worth it?
Does anyone here recommend it?

For the people who have done it what are your thoughts?

Definately worth it. The only reason I am not running a gixxer shock is because I got a Racetech one...but I have my gixxer rear shock as back up.

Here is the deal, maybe you can learn from my mistakes.

On the stock bits, both front and rear the bike is kinda funky at pace but it tolerable. Once you upgrade the rear, the stock front will TOTALLY suck. If you upgrade the front bits only, the bike is better than tolerable.

Now... if you upgrade them both... now your talkin'.

My mistake was that the gsxr shock upgrade is so cheap and easy, I did it before the front and paid for it on the track with slower lap times.

If your just streetin' it, then if you you set it soft and dial in the damping and rebound to your preferences, your rewarded with more enjoyable seat time with less recovery time needed after rides.

Plus one!!! Forgot to add that I also have emulators. Emulators are cheap and if you have a drill press you can do the install yourself.

Gixxer shock was one of the first mods I did to my 300. Difference is night and day IMO, definitely worth the $40 I paid for the shock plus the cost of hardware.

P.S. I just remembered that I sold my stock shock for $40, so overall cost was very little

All sounds good. So yes there are several gsxr swap threads but no DIY. I think i have the jest of it from reading other threads but one thing i am unsure of is the dog bones. So i will need to buy a set of dog bones that will work right?

Which ones do you guys use and where did you get them from?

You will need a set of bones to keep stock height or adjust per your needs, I got mine from Rexbo.

How fat are you? Gixxer shock may be over kill for some.

Rexbo no longer provides dog bones so that makes life harder, fyi.

Yeah i seen that rexbo does not make the bones anymore which lead to me wondering what i would end up doing.

I have a little cash to spend (not much) and was originally planning on dumping it into farkles but after reading a bit i am thinking it will go into the front forks. **** aint cheap but will definitely be worth it.

I still need to send my dirt bike forks out to get revalved and setup ect… but i don't have to do anything and it only costs $200 bucks.

Question regarding gsxr shock, should i be looking for a particular year or will they all roughly fit the same even newer ones?

Assuming he has the specs now for the dogbones for our bike, I'm gonna get some from him since my shock is on the way.

What name and specs did you give him? IE, how should I reference this piece if when I talk to him.

I have been following shock swaps as well. First is to replace front springs and oil then go for the rear.

He has 1" raise dogbones, I think 1.25 would be perfect since I think itll be very close to stock since I am lightweight and my gsxr shocks preload is set litearlly whole way up (1 3/4" of sag for me) so my rear dropped alot.

If you are more weight you may be able to get 1"

He has them on his website just search, if you want something custom in the messages I wrote what I wanted and emailed him. You can email him first if you want.

Those and almost everything on the market lower it.

The longer they are the lower the bike will go, the shorter and the higher itll go. No one makes raised ones for the ninja most lower 1-4" this is the only one I can find other than rexbo which does not sell them anymore.

Wrong, in Germany you can get this one for 35 USD (he's shipping worldwide and I'd send a email a while ago asking about size, he'll make each size you tell him, remember its mm not inch) http://www.ebay.de/itm/Heck-Hoherleg...item27bc02038d

And I post this link the second time now, where you can get some: http://japan.webike.net/ps/#!p.m=5921&p.c=1080&p.sk=1

I just emailed them and asked, didn't see the option anywhere on the site, just lowering links.

Thanks for the heads up though!

My shock was from an '07 I believe. I don't know if the year matters, I'm sure it does I just don't know what years don't fit. Make sure that it is from a 600/750cc though cause the shock from the 1000 won't fit.

Hes adding it tonight for you guys.

What height would you guys want this to be raised. I can make him make one with multiple holes maybe, one for 1"-1.5"?

IDK, what would I need to be at stock height, or just a hair above?

Question Tom. Why would you raise your ride height based on weight or is there more to your thoughts?

Cssmith for me since I am light I had to get rid of all the preload the gsxr shock allows, which made it very low to get my sag right around 1 1/2 to 1 3/4. So my rear end was so low that I wanted it to be about a quarter of a inch higher than stock so figured 1.25" was just about right.

Hence why I choose to raise my bike 1.25" with the dogbones. Then I will ahve a great ride height since I want it to have a little bit of rake so it turns in quick.

Anyone know the ratio of dogbone change to actual bike ride height? What distance between dog bone lengths equals 1" of ride height lift?

This could be as simple as drilling new holes in stock arms, no?

Wasn't really just based on my weight. It's just I haven't seen a whole lot of concrete on the GSXR subject and I didn't wanna not be able to get there with a certain length riser and the shocks available pre-load.

Was thinking I would get both links or if he'll make them one with two holes at 1 and 1.25 so I can play around with it.

That's cool, normally riders buy springs based on weight and then adjust ride height other many other factors.

I am going to keep the stock spring and see how it is, I may just have to replace the spring.

an unbalanced bike is worse than an incorrectly sprung balanced bike. do both front and back at the same time.

Same. I'm gonna get the front put together and the gsxr and see how it does from there. If I need a new spring I can adjust after. I'm gonna be changing so much at once and I'm really not a bike suspension guru(more of a car guy) so I'm gonna have to start here and try and dial in what I can.
