I believe that using motorcycle tires might create a problem. You hand will go between each tire, since they are much thinner, unless you fill them with cement.

Eh, may be different in your neck of the woods but you can buy a decent heavy bag around here for under $50 on CL, and there's a lot of science that goes into how they are weighted and how much give they have, etc.

Like most fitness equipment people buy with every intention of getting in shape. Then they get all sweaty and gross so go back to watching TV. Makes for an awesome secondary market.

Which reminds me, I'm about to buy a house with a basement I need to find some wresting mats...To craigslist!

Having been hitting a bag for the past 10yrs...

You want a practice back that will not angle your wrists. Which is why I would advice against bike tires. Car tires with large gloves might be ok, never tried it. But from the human shaped punching targets we use, they are the worst over time for general issues and soreness.

If you're trying to hit heavy, go for a mass in the bag with a flex core (water). If you're going for strength with a hit, a sand core (weight) is what you're after. If you're going for accuracy, get a human shaped bag/target or speed bag.

In general, bags will let you know how much you suck. I know this because, I still suck.
