Aftermarket Stebel Airborne Stops Working Under Hard Braking

Hey all,

I installed a Stebel air horn that works perfectly when I'm not braking hard, but when I brake hard it loses its sound temporarily until the hard braking stops.

I used a relay to power the horn. I used a bracket made from a spare piece of metal I had that fits in the same area as the stock horn.

I don't have the rubber piece that isolates the horn bracket used on the OEM horn bracket. Maybe this is why? The horn works normal with my setup when speeding about, just not under hard braking.

I bent the speedometer cable metal stay on the left side so it's out of the way, otherwise it hits the horn when braking

Could be power-consumption of horn combined with brake-lights are over power-output of alternator? Although it would seem battery's capacity should take up slack?

Measure voltage-output at horn-connector and see what it is when honking! Then apply brakes and see if that voltage drops.

Might be ground issue as well. Try running ground wire from frame instead of using triple-T and going through ball-bearings & grease.

You can also use technique employed by stereo-installers. Add big capacitor in parallel at horn terminals. This stores up charge at peak voltage that will be used during momentary drops from overloading circuit. But make sure all wiring is OK first.
