Sounds good to me!

I'm in the Dawsonville area (15 mins. north of Cumming).

Weekends are generally best for me. Saturday mornings to mid-afternoon, or Sunday from about 1pm onward.

Leisurely drive sounds good. Most of my friends who have bikes want to go play on Blood Mountain.

Caveat for me is that I don't have a full license yet. Planning on taking the MSF course within the next couple of weeks and then rectifying this aggravation.lol

Leisure sounds good to me too, only been riding a few months. I live by the airport. Weekends are best for me.

I have not ridden too much on the north east side of Atlanta. Going from Kennesaw I like to go up to Jasper and take 136 (very cool road along the top of a ridge) east towards 400 and then back down 92 back home. It does'nt take long to get up into the hills.

What does your permit limit you too?

Day riding and no limited access roads (e.g. 400 or similar). If that causes an issue at any point, I can just attend another time. No biggie.lol

No problem at all, There is only 3 including myself that have showed interest so far. Lets shoot for a couple weekend's from now and see if we can find some more riders.

P.S. I think I saw that you were going to take the MSF course soon. I took it in Alpharetta at the Honda Parts plant. Highly recommended and I got to use a new CBR 250. Where are you taking it?

Yeah, I'm looking at taking it in Alpharetta next weekend (website is: http://www.offroad-training.org/). I figure I'll treat myself to a nice birthday gift.lol

I'm just trying to make sure all my responsibilities at church can be taken care of before I commit to it, though.

Do you have a website or anything for where you took yours? Taking it on a CBR sounds infinitely more appealing than on a cruiser.heh

Thats where I took it. It was a good program. They had 3 CBR250's and then a bunch of the 230cc dual sport type things. My insructors were Randy and Malinda(I think). It was a good program overall. I would have liked a little more class room instruction on traffic awareness and lane positions etc... but you cover a ton in the 2.5 days. It rained like crazy on the first day on the bike. Bring a change of clothes and socks!

I'm in for a "leisurely" group ride as long as y'all didn't mind a pre-gen mixed in with ya'lls newer bikes LOL! I'm in Gainesville but on the 400 side. I second that 136 is a sweet ride. How long of a ride ya'll looking to take?

Here are a couple loops that start and finish us in Acworth/Kennesaw area...if yall want to tackle some serious hills up my way then I have plenty of suggestions for some leisurely but seriously curvy roads up here in the Gainsville, Dahlonega, Hiawassee, Blairsville Area. Maybe that should be a SECOND TIME EVENT after we all meet up and see how everybody rides.

SUGGESTION 1::
1. Meeting somewhere near Acworth/Kennesaw
2. Take Glade Rd up to Red Top Mountain
3. Then take 293 North thru Cartersville, thru Kingston all the way to Rome
4. Then 20 West thru Rome all the way to 100 North
5. 100 North to Summerville
6. Then 27 East to 140
7. 140 East to Waleska
8. 108 South to Satullee
9. 20 West to Cartersville
10. 41 South back to Acworth/Kennesaw

SUGGESTION 2::
1. Meeting somewhere near Acworth/Kennesaw
2. Take Glade Rd up to Red Top Mountain
3. Then 41 North all the way to Resaca
4. 136 West to Trenton
5. Hwy 11 South to Hammondville (117)
6. 117 East turns into 48 East in Georgia to Summerville
7. Then 27 East to 140
8. 140 East to Adairsville
9. Hall Station Rd to 293
10. 293 Back to Acworth/Kennesaw

No problems with a pre-gen being involved. Heck, it probably looks better than mine (it has "battle scars").lol

I don't care what area we go for personally. I'm just up for a fun group ride and meeting some new people.

Hey VMan,

Thanks for the routes! I really like the pre-gens, they are classic!

How about the weekend of the 8th?

Wish I could but I'm all the way in Augusta and between work and school I will probably be consumed by one even on the weekend. If we could work out on a date or time that all of us was good with it would be awesome but I won't get my hopes up....this is my last weekend of summer break too and I'm working the entire weekend

I'm in Warner Robins, so its a bit of a ride for me.

However, I'd love to take a ride up to Helen with a bunch of 250's. Then hit the most awesome road in GA for motorcycles...Richard B Russell Scenic Pkwy (Hwy 348), which in my opinion absolutely smokes Tail of the Dragon in fun factor and scenery.

It would be insanely fun to ride 348 up to Vogul State Park, spend a night camping out, and then ride 348 the other direction back to Helen for Oktoberfest.

But considering a few of you are new to riding, 348 is definitely NOT the road for inexperienced riders.

As of today, I am IN for the 8th as well.

What do y'all think about meeting at the Wal-Mart in Acworth (3826 Cobb Pky Nw, Acworth, GA 30101)? Wal-Mart's are easy to find and the start of either one of the suggested routes is right there.

I am not sure how long those routes are as I have not ridden those routes in that specific order but have ridden most of those roads and are fun easy going.

OH...and 348 IS A BEAST!!!! Definitely a 2nd GROUP RIDE candidate!

Just a thought and/or suggestion! Maybe we can try to get a group ride going once a month - maybe the first full weekend of the month...that way if we make it a set date people can plan out pretty far out in advanced and then make the second weekend of the month the rain make up day?!?!?!?!

Roads/Routes to definitely ride ::
348 (DA BEAST! -- from Helen to Choestoe)
2 (I call this one DA BEAST DEUX -- goes from Chatsworth to Ellijay)
136 (I havent named this one - has really nice views and plenty of TwisTeeeees -- goes from Gainesville to Alabama border)

I think we could do 348 even with newbs, I've only been riding a few months and did it last weekend. I was alone so I could just ride at a pace I felt comfy, I could see how I could get into trouble if i was trying to follow someone with a lot more experience though. We could have two packs, one with the people who want to go crazy and another with the novices to go at a slower pace. I would be in for the novice group on the weekend of the 8th.

Assuming school doesn't get in the way, I think I may be free that weekend. I have tried two or three times to meet some of the people from this forum and it has always been a bust.

So unless I have some crazy studying to do or a project to work on, I should be in.

That is if you guys don't mind a 600 tagging along.

Lol It was more a joke about the power difference. Typically the weaker of the group are considered to "tag along" with the stronger, which would be your bike.

I notice you are a newer rider, so even if you've heard this before, it is worth saying again: "It's all about the rider."

I started on a Ninjette and it was the best thing I could have done to become the rider I wanted to be. It's an evolving process but I think I am coming along nicely.

The extra power I have with my 600 really only helps with the straights and higher speed corners. Well it also helps for hard drives off of corners but that's more for the track than the street. Besides for even aggresive street rides a 250 can easily maintain 80-90 mph. I don't personally plan to ride any faster than that. More than likely I will be riding sweep anyway so the extra power won't be useful even if I were willing to use it.

Thanks for the insight, Xoulrath. Your reasoning is exactly why I picked the 250 as well, so I'm in complete agreement with you.

I was really just trying to joke around and strike up conversation / comradery. But I do appreciate you taking the time to offer me instruction.

Now that we have some interest. Should we try to narrow down the time. Sunday Afternoon or sometime Saturday... I am good for either.

I can make it Saturday too. Will see if some friends with 650s wanna join the bigger displacement crowd isn't lonely. Where would we meet up? Last time I went to 348 i went to Dahlonega, up 60 then east on 180. I live right by 400/Glenridge Connector.

New to the forum,

Friend at work was telling me about going on this ride. The wife and I will be good to join 9-8-12 sporting our Ninja 650s. Our friends /usual riding group will probably want to join, riding GT650R, GSX750R, CB1000, CBR1000R and include another Ninja 250, if everyone is ok with a few more bigger displacements joining the fun also?

Welcome to the board, DT!

No complaints here. I have two friends who'd probably want to join in too--ones a gsxr and another is a buell. I haven't mentioned it to them yet because I wasn't sure if we were bringing friends or not.lol
