carb issues

This issue has probably been gone over a million times but i'm gonna give it a stab my 06 pre gen has been giving some issues lately the bike won't idle under 3000 rpms and also i'm getting oil and white smoke into the air box i don't know if those two issues coinside but i've got the bike at a local mechanic shop and the guy thats working on the bike is scratching his head can't figure it out the bike runs strong from 3000 rpm on up when reving but when you try to adjust the idle screw down to around 1500 it just dies and sometimes when reving the idle hangs at around 4000 the guy is suggesting new carbs but thats more than i wan't to spend right now any suggestins would be welcome thx

Clogged pilot jets are a likely culprit.

(pics of new-gen, but pre-gen is pretty much the same process)

white smoke likely means you have water in the system somewhere as well. No biggie. Just have to burn it off. Has the bike been left out in the rain lately?

imo the instructions on ninjette are better for cleaning the carbs. But the instructions on ninja250.org in the wiki for getting the carbs off are spot on. Follow those to get them off. And then clean them according to ninjette. That should help somewhat
