Sold the ninjette 2 years ago, got a sv650s now
So I haven't posted here in a while, but since I got good knowledge from the site I'd think I contribute with a little review of the suzuki SV650s, seen from somebody who only rode a 250R before, here we go! The bike I picked up is a 2004 sv650s, yellow fairing with gray frame, I love that combo.
-Handling- Since the bike is heavier, and everything is bigger, slow speed turns needs input from the rider. You have to lean more than the 250r(which only turning the handle bar works better). I didn't really much difference in cornering speed, as both bikes have a somewhat mushing suspension stock. At high speed the 650s is very stable, wind protection is a bit better because of the riding position, it's much more agressive on the SV650s, the clip-ons makes you ride with more weight on your arms. -Power- The power difference between the 250cc and 650cc is pretty, pretty big. The SV650s scoots to 100 KMH very, very fast! The V-Twin sounds very nice and is also very smooth, it's the main reason, that along with the look and overall seating posture, that I went with a SV650S than the Ninja650R. The kawasaki is more of a touring sport, where as the sv650 is more of a standard sports bike. The bike starts to slow down when you reach 200 KMh, I didn't test the top speed, not important for me . -Everything else- I LOVE the naked, mechanical/industrial look of the big, this is a big plus for me! The fuel economy is not that much worst than the 250r, I get about 260-300 KM per tank and it takes about 14-16 liters (16-20$). In traffic with heavy traffic and even on the highway, the ability to accelerate without downshifting is very welcomed. Everything good about the sv650s is TRUE!

Congrats on the SV650S. It's an awesome bike & even the early 2000's models look like they're brand new. Timeless design FTW

Thanks for the info. How long did you have your 250? I hate to let mine go after close to 1 year and 9k.

I had it for about 2 years, I've put about 15 000 KM on it, did a lot of highway trips! In the end, having a bigger bike made a bit more sense to me, and the timing / price was good, I sold the 250R with complete exhaust for 4300(it was still relatively rare 2 years ago) and bought the SV for 3800 with roughly the same mileage (16 000 KM) and had a slip-on already on it. Everyway I look at it, it was a good deal for me

Yea, I'm looking for a great deal before I part with my bike as well. I want to get the full experience of my 250. I don't want to look back and wonder what if.
That yellow 650 I love yellow bikes. |
