GP SHIFT

I am trying to switch my 2011 N250 to GP shift. I have after market rear sets. I brought a piece that extends out but still I can’t get it too work.

Those of you that have done it, how did you do it?

All of my bikes are GP shift. I can ride the 250 on the street with no problem with STD shift. But on the track when the shifts are quicker, I know I will mess up. I switched to GP shift around 7 or 8 years ago, absolutely love it!

i tried it on my 400, rod it for 100 miles like that and couldn't wait to change it back.

Not sure it's of any benefit on street. Required on my track bike because it becomes impossible to shift up coming out of corners because foot gets scraped off peg when positioned below shifter from lean-angle. Only way to up-shift is to have foot above shifter.

You need to grind off part of sprocket-cover so you can flip shifter dog-leg piece up.

All of my motorcycles have been converted too. I decided I preferred pushing down to upshift in my street racing youth of the 1970s, but really I just like the feel a lot more and stuck with it.

It looks like you have the information now, so good luck with the conversion.

Thanks for the pics Danno, I have been fooling around with this the last 2 days. I brought and extension piece that I hoped would do the job. But no luck. The shift rod rubs on the shifter. That metal sprocket cover is the issue, it sticks out too far for GP SHIFT. It will have to be cut like Danno has done in the pics.

One of the benefits of GP shift is no false neutrals. Can’t explain why but it cuts the false neutrals out I would say completely. I got used to it during some twisty rides before track season years ago and never went back! I love it flying down the straight and banging down the gears, feels more natural. With these little bikes on the track we shift allot more than the bigger bikes. I will be seeing a friend who wields and have him cut the sprocket case for me.

I took the cover off and was able to get the GP SHIFT pattern! I will have my welder friend cut the metal sprocket cover so I can put it back on. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction Danny!

Be mindful of your lean angle and that kickstand mount!
