k&n drop in vs pods

Hi all im a new member and id just like to say the knowledge and maturity on this forum is great but to my question.i will be picking up a used(obviously) 08 250r and the mods i plan are an areap full exhaust, dynojet stage 2 kit, full synthetic oil, iridium spark plugs and just general tuning.i was wondering if there would be a significant advantage going with pods over a k&n drop in and if its worth the added work also anyone who has done pods could i just a quick rundown on what exactly is involved in upgrading to them thanks

you'll need a new set of main jets. 110's minumum. I would go with the drop in unless you don't care about your mileage that much. No real advantage maybe a little better throttle response.

pods require you to pull the airbox out. it is a involved, time consuming job. with pods, you will also need to use larger main jets.

powerwise, the top end remains about the same, but power is gained throughout the powerband from low to high end.

my suggestion is to go with a slip in filter for the airbox for now. you can always go to pods later if you are not happy with just setting up your bike w/ a drop in filter.

pic of my bike when I was pulling the airbox.

thanks im not too worried about mileage as the bike is already going to be great for that i figure even if it drops it'll still be pretty good.(plus my wringing it out will lower it anyways) thanks

thanks for the pic i figure your right on about trying the drop in first.after i get the bike ill ride it for probably about 6 monthes or so too get totally comfortable with it(and procure the necessary funds)then do my planned upgrades.the way i figure if i do the exhaust, dynojet kit and filter at the same time ill be so happy with the results i probably wont even be worried about the slight advantage pods might give me.p.s. thanks for the quick answers

Unless someone wants to fly to hawaii and steal his bike and then ship it which will cost a ton of money to the states I would venture to say Kkim is going to be just fine.

He also trained BJ Penn to fight so you know....

if you are using the airbox, that setup should work fine.

I am thinking about the K&N drop in too. Is it worth it the price though? Are you able to tell a difference? performance or sound wise?

Um my dyno's show a 0.5-1.0 HP gain by a drop in JFC filter which is what I sell, (KN is made of the same material) so I imagine a similar gain.

I'd see how your mileage does with the drop-in before you go to pods. I have the air box pulled and air pods and my MPG has been really lousy lately. I'm suspecting the air pods have a lot to do with it.

I haven't had the pleasure of pulling my bike completely apart to remove the air box on my 250r yet, but I have done it on virtually every other bike I have owned. From the pics, I cannot see the hassle vs. benefit over just removing the snorkel and rejetting. My experience it that the smaller the bike, the harder it is to get the jetting just right. I had couple Honda CB-1 's a few years back (400 cc , 4 cylinder) I put pods on one and a K & N factory style on the other...I liked to never got the one with the pods right...Months of frustration...in hindsight, I just cannot see the horsepower benefit of the pods on the 250R for the street. If your setup is for racing or day racing then definitely.
