Fixing up a damaged 250.

So i have a friend who just got an 09 250 and about 50 miles later was rear ended. while waiting at a stop light the car behind him was rear ended by a drunk driver which sent it hurling forward hitting his rear light/fender and rim sending him forwards and off of the bike.

he's going to sell the bike to me and i'd like to fix it up myself instead of letting the dealer rip me off on a quoted, 800 dollar rear rim assembly alone!.

i've gotten some good information on what to do with my right rearset bracket from someone else on the forum and i have a good source for a brand new rear tire, however, i need to replace this rim and my question is, will earlier year rear wheels fit this 09 250? i know that the size is different on years 07 and earlier...i believe they are 130/80 r16 and the ones that run stock on the 09 are 130/70 r17.

would this permit a big problem? (this is my first time working on a bike, however, i have a lot of experience with cars, etc.)

i've found plenty of 130/80 r16's locked and loaded with sprocket, disk and wheel on ebay for some good prices, however, i wasn't able to find an 08-09 rim for a decent price anywhere.

here are a couple pictures of my damage:

Nick - Tim sells rims, powdercoated on here - you might check that out - you can get a full set from him, color-matched to the bike, or another color that you'd like better... as for your question about other wheels fitting, I can't really answer that - you might look at some of the threads that have the Indonesian/Malaysian bikes in them, as it looks like that may have swapped wheels in some cases

Are you going to remove the wheel lock from brake disc or is the disc warped?

You should go with the wheel designed for the bike!

I will definitely contact tim, that sounds awesome.

the dics, sproket, etc... all of that stuff is fine--only the rim is bent where there was collision. (the swingarm isn't bent according to the mechanic and insurance appraiser and HOPEFULLY it's true, haha).

the only reason i was going to get a different rim/tire is because i want to go as cheap as i can, ha!

Try Pat'sBikes on eBay...he gets a lot of late model 250's and if he doesn't have the parts, give him a heads up on what you need and he might locate them for you. Good service, decent prices, and no junk...I've bought a couple items from him as have others on this Board. I would think many listers have a stock exhaust laying around.

Thanks for the info. i just contacted "pat's bikes" on ebay. Tim is also proving to be some good help to me.

Appreciate it guys.

The exhaust works perfectly fine, it's just scratched up. i should be fine with that, right?

Should work fine...you might get a more pristine OEM cannister off eBay or a Lister for not too much $$$. Check out the rear brake master cylinder and make sure it didn't get buggered up with the bracket broke...bent piston rod, for example.

I would take the front rim and trade it to tim if he'll let you in exchange for knocking the pirce down slightly on a set of podwercoated rims which are $400 without exchange.

Lots of good stuff on Ebay for cheap. Saw some good rims for our bikes at the $100 mark. I've bought most of the parts I've needed off ebay from this guy:
http://shop.ebay.ca/domnicprofenno/m...1&_from=&_ipg=

You need to search "2008 ex250" and "2009 ex250" to find stuff for our bikes from him

Good luck
