Most Fuel Efficient Speed?
Anyone know what the most fuel efficient speed to drive at on the ninjette is? I was testing my car (2000 Nissan Maxima) and it's most fuel efficient speed is between 35-45. I'm guessing the ninja is close to that, maybe a little faster. Time to go find out!

How are you testing it?

It depends. With a 15/42 sprocket set up, the bike will be at approx 6k @ 60 mph indicated (55 actual). 6k on a stock Ninja has an A/F Ratio of approx 14.7:1, which is where fuel is more efficiently burned while cruising.
My mpg take a hit at speeds over 65 mph. |

I'm planning on testing it with my 650 since it has a MPG feature. I did the same with my car using a Scan Gauge II
I figure that the most fuel efficient speed would be similar across both the 250 and 650.

Mpg, whats that? Mph is where its at, just dont wring your RPMs out as much(shift faster) to accelerate. at speeds of 35-45 your probably gunna stop and go, therefore consuming more fuel. On the other hand 65-70 will use higher RPMs, therefore consuming more fuel. Its a lose/lose situation my friend. If the bike gets an 'average' of x mpg, lets say 50. Compaired to a cars 'average' of 30mpg, then who cares about a 2-3mpg difference in either direction? The way you drive wont effect it a whole lot(unless your trying to drag, but thats a whole nother story) just drive normally and be happy, unless you plan on hypermilling or some other crazy stuff, that and stay away from trucks n SUVs
Peraonally I dont pick a veichle based on mpg, I pick based on how practicle(or fun) it is. Although I wont use my SUV as a work car, its there for the kids. Posted via Mobile Device |

Yes, please do, I have bad roadrage vs slow drivers(unless its snowing or raining hard) especially slow people that drive in the left lane next to another slow driver and your trapt doing 15mph under the speed limit...

Makes sense. Big fan of the scan gauge gadget.

You are reading too much into this. I just wanted to know what the most aerodynamically fuel efficient speed is, that's all.

This appears to be true. As shown here going 42 mph offers infinite mpg

I know, but im just saying ittl never be exactly the same, ever(my dad used to do the same thing), do you plan on changing your everyday commuting route once you find the most fuel efficient way? If not, is it just out of curiousity?

Looks like it's also 35-45mph on a bike, however, I haven't tried tucking yet

I've always thought it was generally in the highest gear with the least amount of throttle required to keep the engine at the same speed.

I admire the random 0-60 in an mpg video. Dang why does the 650 have to be so much quicker to 60 than my 500

Haha well I had been doing 0-60 runs all day the previous day on my 250, had to give the 650 some lovin' too. And that isn't the fastest I'll be able to get it. I'm still kinda afraid to go WOT in first

Most fuel efficient speed?
Zero. With the engine switched off. (Sorry, somebody had to say it….) |

Lol, if I had a computer I prob would be looking that up right now, but takes way too long on a phone, especially cuz I get crappy service in this building.
However I have figured out 3 ways to get amazing gas milage, infact you will never have to fill up your bike again(would provide pics but takes up too much data to use my photobucket and no way to attatch a file from the phone) #1 put pedals on your bike(although peddling around a 300lb+ bike wont be easy, unless you strip the bike down) #2 buy a camal and a rope, he can pull you around in style(my favorite) #3 swap out engines for an electric motor(if they can do it for cars, why not bikes?) Sweet, but getting back on topic I think the most common answer is RPMs not speed. I think the question is kind of like how many licks does it take to get to the center of a tootsie pop. 1, 2, 3, chomp, the world may never know. In the tootsie pop the common answer seems to be who cares, it tastes good, not how many licks... although, alot of cars/bikes do revolve around the posted speedlimit(I think someone posted that here, or maybe else where. Either way sounds good to me, Wether its true or not I have no clue)

Wow! I was about ready to rant about how that is bs because it has an electric motor, which is the exact same thing as an engine. Then, I googled it just to double check myself, and found out that technically it doesn't have an engine. Carry on. |

Spot on I think...I definitely read that somewhere. Highest gear = most wheel revolutions per engine rotation. Lowest possible engine rotations without the engine bogging down. My car is 6th gear, 2k rpm, which is about 55mph. Will have to see what the bike is.
