FWIW, fuel is getting in the engine for others with a bad petcock. It seems to happen to F and J bikes. Edit: I recall seeing pictures that I'll look for. Until then: Quote:

Yes, the kit replaces the vacuum operated petcock with a fuel tap that has 2 nipples; 1 for fuel out, and one for a return line.
Yes, I know that happens with the petcock. It happened with mine. I just ended up buying a new petcock for $60 and never had problems again. |

To anyone who is about to install this kit, do yourself a favor and get 2 dual disconnects from Motion Pro. You'll thank me later when you don't have to drain your tank.

CA tanks have a return line plumbed into them from the factory. For pregens, the petcock will have to be modified to allow fuel to flow without vacuum (I believe removing the little o-ring on the vacuum line will allow this.

Interesting. Well if I ever EFI another 250, I'll make sure to grab a CA model and/or CA tank. The disconnects are pretty cool, but always drip a bit out the end when first disconnected.
Mmmmmmm............gas fumes

Yea with the CA tank you have all these annoying emissions crap plugs in the tank that you have to plug/filter when you take the crap off. The cool thing about these ports though is that you can just attach the return line to one and keep your stock petcock. Easy and simple

Haven't tasted it but the endorphins given off from when I'm tuning have mixed with the smell of gas so that when ever I fill my tank I end up needing to change my panties as well

I have been racing and hot rodding for my entire life. Yes I have tasted gas. The worst is when you syphon gas with a garden hose. Done wrong you get a mouth full. Nothing worse. the taste is there for a week. O there is worse. Don't get gasoline in your ear.! That hurts bad.

A guy I work with is from up north. Years ago, he had an old pickup with the fuel tank behind the seat. The water in the bottom of the tank froze and plugged the fuel line, so he pops the fuel line off the pump and blows really hard into the line to force the ice off. It did... and oh by the way, he didn't take the cap off the tank, so it just pressurized the tank and as soon as he quit blowing the pressure pushed gas back into his mouth before he knew it. Just too funny to not tell.

The wiring was all correct. I wiped the ECU again and the bike started up perfect. It started to idle kind of funny; lower and lower like it was running out of gas. I looked down and noticed that the worm clamp on the feed line to the pump was loose and spraying out some gas there.
Maybe this was also causing that weird idle a little while ago. Either way, got a new clamp on it, and the bike ran perfectly for the 20 min that I idled it. I tried to start it immediately after that, while still hot, but the battery was dead from all the cranking (from the other day) and not being run at high rpms. Now I get to test my new battery tender out for the first time! Seems like an improvement though I also plan to leave the stock cans on until I am 100% sure that everything is running properly.

Its best not to use worm clamps on high pressure fuel injection hoses. Use FI clamps which you can get at most auto parts places.

The bike ran great on my 20 min ride today. No weird idle, no idle hunt, nothing weird at all. It even started right up 5 min after turning it off from being hot. Feels better than it ever has too.
Not going to let the bike troll me again; I'll give it a month before I call it good to go.

Coldest day the bike has ever seen today. Bike fired right up, drove perfect to the gas station (where it has historically had lots of problems), and started right back up after the fill up. Quite the varying starting situations today.
On another note, riding in fog that has nearby airports grounded SUCKS.

Yepp, keep the headlight on low and pray that your tail light isn't out
Do you notice that your after-start/warm-up mix is a bit rich at cold temps? I started it at 40F (cranked and started right up, WOOT!) and it was great once it warmed up and whatnot, but when it was idling after starting, it was idling awful low. That says to me that the mix is too rich there. It normally idles a touch over 1500, and idles at like 1300 at startup, but it was at like 1100 and it was fine, but it was annoying. I want it perfect at 1300 no matter the temp I guess I just need to play with those values a little bit. |

mine idled at my set idle perfectly while cold. The bike was in a heated garage though, so I'm not sure if that had any effect.

I likely did. Mine was in a cold garage with the door open. The whole engine was the same temp as the outside air haha. I'm still impressed with how well the bike adjusted to the cold, even in open loop mode. It ran well.

Yeah, if it was that cold out, I could see it being an issue.
Just to contrast, it also started up and idled the same exact way after it was warm as it did when it was cold. I was used to having it idle a bit lower, and then move up when it's warmed, but it's seemed to just idle perfectly from the get go. Can't complain.
