Gas level and sound issue
Hey everyone. So, 2 things:
Fuel level. Now, I know the fuel capacity on a ninja is 4.8 gallons. Whenever i fill up, it only fills to just under 3/4's. If i try topping it off, which i know i shouldn't, it barely makes it to a full 3/4. The part that throws me of is how 3/4 equals 1.4 gallons. At least that's what it reads when i fill up. Now, i'm no mathematician, but this just doesn't add up. What am i missing here? Second issue is a noise that seems to be coming from the front sprocket area. It almost sounds like a whirring buzzing sound. Maybe like something metallic is rubbing off of underneath the side fairings. I've been trying to create the sound while riding to pinpoint what could be causing it. Sometimes it'll do it when i downshift and sometimes it happens after a sharp turn as if leaning the bike could cause it. When i accelerate after cruising on neutral, it'll begin. As i start picking up speed, the sound goes faster and faster and eventually the high RPMs drown out the sound. When I slow down, I can hear the sound again begin to slow down and eventually stop. What do you guys think? |

Gas gauges aren't accurate so stop thinking so hard, and we all top off our bikes every time. I always get at least 4.3 gals on every fill up.

Its been awhile actually. Last time i cleaned and lubed the chain, i remember still hearing the sound but definitely not as much as I do now.

Yeah remove the sprocket cover and clean behind it as well as the whole chain really good with WD-40, soak everything in it and let it set for at least 5 mins then scrub and rinse with WD-40 then wipe and if you have air lightly blow clean. Wait another 10 or so minutes to let the excess evaporate then lube your chain.
Chains can cause all kinds of different noises thought the whole bike. |

I never rely on the gas gauge (on any motorcycle). I find it much safer to go by miles as long as you realize there are times when you are riding harder than others and you may get poorer fuel economy. Daily commute vs. riding in the twisties, for instance.
