Pikes PEAK
Have you been there?
Have you rode to the peak? I am reading about some of the great motorcycling destinations for tripping. I was thinking Tail of the Dragon and Pikes peak both seem like a must do before you die ride.

Haven't been to Pikes Peak, but Mt. Evans is not to far north of there. If going, get a two-fer!

Pikes peak is alright, like someone stated earlier Mt. Evan's is better and cheaper. If you really want to explore Colorado check out Butler maps. Usually all the "G1" roads are worth a checking... My favorite so far is CO-92, black canyon.

Sadly, no.
It's paved up to the top at this point.

has anyone taken a stock 250 up pikes peak?
doing a double-header at HPR this summer and want to do pikes peak and mt evans with my girlfriend after, and she's on a 250. I've done a lot of research and had some results say that it will absolutely need to be rejetted, and others say itll be weaker but easily doable. I'm hoping someone has done it and can tell for sure. Id hate to haul her bike 700 miles for nothing... if it needs to be rejetted we can at least do that ahead of time, and if that doesnt then ill have to look at borrowing something bigger. just dont want to be stranded with a bike on the trailer that wont be used |

On Mt. Evans, I did not need to rejet my stock 2012. Due to the slower speed limit and narrow road, I was going slow enough I never noticed a power issue (as opposed to the Monarch Pass at 11.3k where I struggled to maintain the 60ish MPH limit).
I heard a pregen had a bit of trouble but still made it to Pikes.

Pikes peak is definitely one of the reasons I want to go to colorado. The race has lost a lot of it's luster due to being fully paved now, I liked the uniqueness it had being a half dirt race up the mountain

we definitely aren't trying to make a race of it. thats what the track days beforehand are for. just sight seeing and i dont want her to be stranded half way up the mtn.
fyi hers is a 2008, that classifies as the same gen correct? the one i had 10 years ago was a 98 which was definitely pregen |

You should be fine. I've gone to both piled peak and my Evans numerous times with my brother. He's got a 2012 and I have a 300. We both made it fine. Slower speeds watch for cracks, CO 103 is one of the better roads if it's clean, and up the mt co 5 I beleive is nice.
