How much gas?

Ok so this may sound like a dumb question...but where do you fill the tank to? If you stick the nozzle all the way in, the auto shut off will stop it just after the center divider. That lasts about 100 miles....at least the last tank did. Obviously it can be filled more....bu how much more? I didn't get a manual with the bike and the tank had a sticker about over-filling...so I just stayed on the cautious side....

You can't rely on the auto-shutoff like you can with cars. It shuts off way too early in a bike tank. You need to hold it down manually until the gas comes up to the top of the tank . I stop right when it hits that lowest metal ring. You shouldn't overfill it much past that, or it will come out the overflow and can soak the charcoal filter (for california bikes).

Also, there is a sticky thread at the top of the pre-gen tech section about where to download a free owners manual right from Kawi.

topping off any vehicle made since 93 is a good way to waste money and spend a bunch extra.

stopping at the lower metal ring as stated is perfect....

Not just cars made since the early 90's, any car with a vapor recovery system. These systems are designed to work with fuel vapors, not liquid fuel. Over filling can cause liquid fuel to get into the charcoal cannister, thereby ruining it.

Its also a good idea to avoid letting the nozzle go into the liquid fuel in the tank. The way the auto shutoff mechanism works is that there are vacuum holes hidden in the nozzle. This is a small internal tube visible at the end. If this gets into the liquid, it will suck some of it out.

On the side of the nozzle are emission vacuum holes. I think these are for sucking fumes out of a tank to prevent them from getting into the air. They too can suck liquid fuel if it gets to them.

I'm not sure just exactly how much gets sucked back into the pump, but there is no sense in paying for it and giving it right back to them.
