I also was lookging at the snorkel and air filter today. When i was calling shops to quote jetting prices last week i also asked about air filter. Most of them said stick with stock. One guy in particular said do not go with K&N, said there was no difference vs stock except you have to oil it all of the time.

Now that got me thinking about it; i should still remove the snorkel right? Should i keep the stock airfilter? Or what is your guys experience with what he said? What kind of oil would i have to use for it? Does it come preoiled? My stock air filter now is all dirty on the one side, (3700ish miles) - how do i clean it or do i just replace it?

I want to have it ready so when i attempt or get it rejetted its in optimal condition so i do not have to jet again.

--some more trouble if none of that is true

BMC VS K&N .. which to pick? or are there other "better" brands.

Well, pods give a massive amount of air flow. Problem is, it's hot from right behind the engine, and it's dirty air. Air box gives a controlled amount of clean air, and takes advantage of resonance from the valves opening and closing because it's a closed (mostly) system.

I would remove the snorkel, keep the air box, and go with a high flow filter if I were you. You can still get some impressive numbers.

I'm not sure about the oem filter vs K&N vs BMC filter debate...

Anyone on this? also what about oiling the filter - i didnt think it was a concern until I popped my air filter and my hands were all grimy.

If I don't get a new one am I supposed to wash old one?

Good luck to everyone. I would root for my color, but I didn't get to see my color egg (not that it matters anyway, I'm colorblind and would be rooting for the wrong color anyway).

My process will not be that much different than anyone else's. I will just have some slightly different parts. Installing a jet will be the same no matter if it came with a kit or bought as single items. I suppose the needles you get with the kit will be different and have an adjustable clip to raise and lower the height. I will be just using washers. So that will be different but removal and re-installation will be pretty much the same either way.

This stuff isn't exactly rocket science ya know.
Hey @csmith12 did you ever record your install of the process? I may have to do this myself and still not so confident.

At first I was going to follow the steps in this DIY to install my new jets. But while removing one of the float bowl screws, one stripped and my plan was foiled.

Which leads me to this DIY. While it looks to be a lot of work, getting the fairings, airbox and other misc. stuff out of the way, it's actually the easy part. Getting the carbs in and out is the hardest part. It's tight!!!! The airbox will not slide back very far at all. It slides enough to give you just enough room to free the boots from the carbs but still takes some twisting, turning and a bit of muscle to get them out and back in. Also when doing this, your gunna rub the boots on both sides (intake and airbox). As long as your careful, this will not be a problem. Just massage everything back into it's original place. Take your time and triple check the boots to ensure nothing is folded or pinched. Take a break if you need to, this can be the most frustrating part.

For Al and anyone else that needs it, I took video of the overall process. It's not the best video, I sound like a country hick and I only have my hand to hold the camera. So print out the DIY and watch the vid for specifics/trouble spots.

Kick off your boots, put on your cowboy hat, get the popcorn and a brew. I will append the thread when the vid is done uploading. ETA 2 hours upload.

for the 300 is stupid easy , just 3 plugs, very easy if you take the fairings out, you dont even need to take out the fuel tank just lifting it with a 2x4 could do the trick, also while you are installing the tuner, do the kleen air system delete mod

Sure, just send the bike and pipe to my house. It will take me all summer to do the install since it's new and all. I will have to research it to ensure nothing is missed.

I think you were very clear and now when I lurk in the tech section the terms you all are using will not be so greek to me.
You do need to work on your camera pointing skills.

Thank you

Lol for realz. You should see what I cut out of the video. I dropped the camera no less than 3 times. If I had it to do over again, I would not use my contour to do a video like that. Or I will just set it down on something.

Interesting enough, my wife come to the garage and asked.... "Why didn't you just use the handicam? It has the little screen and you can see what your filming."
