Bit the bullet...just bought a '08 ZX10R brand new!!!

Well, for those of you who may be thinking, "Oh no, he's crazy!!" Don't worry, I've been riding for 16 years, and my last bike I owned was a GSXR 750, and as a motorcycle mechanic, I've ridden almost everything out there, and spent some time with a ZX-12R several years ago.

Anyway, the deal was too good to pass up.

0 down, 0 payments, 0 interest for 6 months. $9650 OTD, yes OTD. The bike retails for $11599. They're blowing these out hideously cheap. I couldn't have even gotten an '09 zx-6r any cheaper I don't think.

Anyway, pics to come...but it's all stock of course, and is green in color.

Still have the 250 ninja(2002) and it's not going anywhere. I'll be riding that when I make freeway trips to see the wife at lunchtime. And other times too. The ZX10R is just a toy =)

And, the wife just took the motorcycle rider course, so I will shortly have riding partner =)

Fun bike! The trick is to make sure and remember which ninja you're on when you whack the throttle open. If you guess incorrectly, you'll find out soon enough.

I gotta say that it wasn't lacking hp for me from 0 to vmax. On the street it needed -zilch- performance-wise. Once I got it on track there were things that started to stand out (brakes, suspension), so I dealt with those as they came up. The brakes were supposed to be uprated for the '08 version, so they may be good to go out of the box. Here's a link to the first impressions I posted up after getting that monster home.

Toying with a slip on for sound, but that also makes it a cop magnet...and I don't need any more power. I've done all the ultra aggressive canyon riding that I ever wanted with my GSXR, and after a really close call, I ride at 6/10's
pace in the twisties these days when I'm pushing it. Just don't need the grief. No more stoppies either, even though I used to be quite good at them. As far as wheelies, I was good at those too, but I'm going to take it slow on the new bike. Prob not a lot of balance point riding them out type wheelies, just power wheelies on accel.

I've become quite mellow in my old age =)

Very Very nice machine! Congratulations. Tried one out a while ago and found that it is a bit too much for this 68 year old. I get some interesting comments on my green 250. I have even had my mental stability questioned--even though I am a retired "Shrink". I have been riding 50 years. Be careful--That bike is a perverbial rocket.

WOW! 1000cc supersport. I can't see myself going back to that but if the deal is right, I'm probably a sucker too. Have fun and congrats.

Did you pick the Kawasaki payment plan? If so, after that magical 6 months, the interest payments are very big. It doesn't really matter if you can pay the bike off in 6 months though.

Beautiful bike. Does the body work fit better than on the 250?

You know there are many cars that will do 186MPH ( I think that is the limiter). I can think of Porsche, Ferrari, Mercedes Benz, etc, etc , etc. Most of the people who own them don't drive that fast. Most drive the same speed as the rest of traffic.

Riding a bike is the same thing. Just because the bike will go that fast doesn't mean you have too (well not after you make sure it will go that fast). It's just a matter of maturity (so they tell me).

Don't know about the fitment of the bodywork. I haven't had to remove/replace any yet. Just used a piece from my 250 Ninja fender to get rid of the ridiculous fender(mud flap) that came on the bike.

Honestly, this thing is more than I was prepared for. Even the big bikes I've ridden like an '01 ZX-12, or older ZX-11's can't prepare you for this thing. Even my 99 GSXR 750 was nothing compared to this. The power is like a light switch. Good thing I'm older and more mellow than I used to be. I can't see how a young kid could own one of these. I've been caught off guard several times already by the acceleration. It's quite amazing. Bike revs at 4800rpm at 75mph indicated. Compare that to 8900 rpm on the 250 ninja(2002).

yep, don't have to pay for 6 months. After that, the finance rate goes to 21.9% or something crazy, retroactive back to the date of purchase. The trick is to either pay it in full within 6 months, or refinance it.
