Ecotrons EFI (Fuel Injection) kit Group Buy: June 2013

This is the June 2013 group buy thread for the Ecotrons EFI fuel injection kit. The kit fits both the pregen and newgen, but you need to specify your model year at the time of payment because some models are different.

This is the same deal that the March 2013 group buy got.

$15 deposit is required, payment can be made on the Ecotrons website. The item is at the bottom under the normal price. If the group buy fails to get enough buyers, the deposit will be refunded. A minimum of 5 buyers are required.

5 people = 20% off = $480
10 people = 25% off = $450

Shipping to US address: $20.

Group buy ends June 30, 2013.

Link to Ecotrons page and deposit button.
http://ecotrons.com/Kawasaki_Ninja_250cc_EFI_kit.html

A few other links:

The install thread - This is the thread where experienced installers can answer questions about installing the kit.

The DIY Video Thread - This thread hows how to install the kit as a module. It minimizes down time for the bike and makes it easy to revert back to the carburetors if you feel you need to.

Buyers who are in for the EFI kit:
1. n4mwd
2. triptronix
3.
4.
5.
6.
7.
8.
9.
10.

If you want to be included in this group buy, you must state on THIS thread that you are in and I will add your name to the list above.

Note that a few people have expressed interest in buying a bracket kit from me like in the video. If enough people are interested in the brackets (not included in the kit), let me know.

Its more like generation 5 that you want. Here are the previous 4 generations.....

1st gen - Primitive throttle body with no practical provision for control cables. No fuel rail. Injector tubes were screwed on rather than welded.

2nd gen - Added a small, but unusable bracket for cables. Injector tubes now welded on.

3rd gen - Major revision of the throttle body. Included a usable cable bracket and a solid aluminum fuel rail. Added barbs to fuel pressure regulator housing.

4th gen - Added barbs to fuel pump and eliminated the bubbler line. Also changed the fuel pump electrical connector to a one piece locking connector.

5th gen - ??????

But the 5th gen may or may not happen. Then again, I was caught off guard by the the new 4th gen mods. He never said anything about those and I didn't know about them until the people that got the kits from the last group buy reported getting them that way.

Who knows, maybe this group buy will get something else, or maybe it will be the same as the last one. In the past, he has allowed purchasers of older gen kits to trade up to the new gen kits. I doubt there are still any 1st or 2nd gen kits out there any more because he has replaced them all with 3rd gen kits. But I can't promise he will continue that practice.

But regardless, we still need 3 more buyers to get this group buy.

17 more days to go.

So if worst case scenario we do not get the additional 3 buyers for the group buy will there will be still some sort of discount? Regardless of what happens I intended to still get the kit (saving some money doing so is an added bonus)

n4mwd if things dont pan out for the group buy would you still be able to make me the brackets?

If the group buy fails and I don't get a kit, I could still make the brackets, but I wouldn't have any way to test fit them. So you might need to adjust them to fit properly. It would also be just the brackets and not the brass. Also, the brackets are hand made so don't fuss if they have blemishes or something cosmetic wrong with them.

All of this presupposes that he hasn't changed the throttle body or is supplying the brackets with the kit.

roughly two weeks to go!

I was thinking over the weekend and if the group buy fails then I'm probably not getting the kit and look into trading in my bike then

Its starting to look like we started this group buy too soon after the last one. If it doesn't go through, I'm going to ask him to ship me just the bung nuts and plugs instead of refunding my deposit. That way I can go ahead and get that part done. Welding those on is probably the most difficult part of the install. So when we finally have another successful group buy, I'll be ready to bolt everything else on.

the biggest problem is that i will have issues getting the bungs welded onto the headers since no automotive shop or motorcycle shop near me is willing to do the task.

It looks like i will need to run in rich mode then if i still do decide to get the kit if the group buy fails

You asked the wrong people. You need a welder to weld the bungs on - not a bike shop. I used oxy-acetylene myself, but a pro would probably tig weld it on. I would stay away from arc or mig because it needs to be air tight. If you have the bung nuts ground to a concave surface so that they fit snugly to the header pipe, then just drill the hole in the center so that the welder can see exactly where it goes.

Something like this is like a $20 welding fee if you bring it ready to weld, but they could have a minimum charge that could bring it up.

I had them drill and weld mine on. Cost me $30. Just go to a place that specializes in welding. There has got to be one nearby you somewhere.

I may be dropping out of the group buy later this week. I am taking in my ninja to the local kawa dealer to get it appraised as trade in value for the 300. If things work out i will be riding a new 300 next week (I hope)

You might as well wait another 10 days and get your deposit back as it doesn't look like we are going to have enough buyers by then. It does look like we started this group buy too soon after the last.

As far as trading for a 300, you might want to think about that a minute. Dealers notoriously pay chicken scratch for trade in vehicles. If they only offer you $2K it wouldn't surprise me. You can get $3-3.5K on craigs list.

Likewise, you should also check to see what Costco is selling new 300's for. They usually beat out the dealers. Around here, craigs list has new 300's going for $4.5K.

Then there is the model year. Since this is the first model year the 300 has been out, it would be worth it to wait a few months for the 2014's to come out. The second year of a new model run usually has all the fixes they didn't think about for the first year run.

Just something to think about.

Thanks n4mwd for the insight.

Here in Canada, Costco unfortunately does not sell bikes and craiglist/kijiji pricing for anything motorcycle related is especially for newer bikes are unbelieveable to say the least.

I guess waiting 7 more days for my refund should be ok

I think that one of the problems is that people from the March group buy haven't completed their installs yet. Seems that there was a problem with the regulators that caused poor running. Matt is replacing them under warranty.

I think that scared some folks off.

So the bottom line is that we shouldn't have done this group buy this soon. At least not until everyone from the previous GB is up and running.

According to the tracking number, my regulator is coming in today so I SHOULD be up and running today if I have time to switch them out and if the weather cooperates. 40% chance of thunderstorms even tho it's 80 degrees, sunny, and not a cloud in the sky lol as soon as I leave work in 6 hours it'll prolly pull a 180 and the storm will set in.

Adjust your decel fuel cut-off a little higher, say 2100 rpm. Then give it learning time. That should solve your issues.

You really can't expect to literally plop parts on and have a perfectly running bike. Not even jet kits can promise that...

Do you not want to use the bike now? It really does work quite well once you get it all up and running.

I'm still thinking about it for the second bike. The carb on it has been very temperamental lately. If it sits for a few days without riding, it gets really hard to start. The EFI bike can go months and then start right up. The only issue I've had is that the battery drains and then doesn't have enough juice to start it. But that can be fixed by keeping the bike on a battery tender.
