Front fork oil seal change...
I have a '02. Do I need Kawi's specialty tools to disassemble my front fork and change the seals? I have the manual(which is not very helpful), and it claims I need 3-4 tools. Help!!
I have never done forks so please forgive my ignorance. :P I bought the ninjette three weeks ago(already leaking freely out the top of the dust seal) and I have put 400 miles on it. Stunningly, the front suspension doesn't feel right. ![]() Thanks--Brad

I highly recommend getting the Motion Pro Seal Driver. They have a really cool on that splits in half.
I also recommend getting the Motion Pro Fork Oil syringe so you can properly set the air gap The Damper Rod holding tool you can get from Amazon for like $20. The brand is Pit Posse You can get copper crush washers anywhere. I actually bought a box from Harbor Freight for like $2. I do a lot of fork oil changes for multiple bikes so this was a no-brainer. It comes with a lot of various size copper washers, so I use them for for crush washers for oil changes as well as brake lines. Plus, at $2, its cheaper than buying 2 washers from the dealership. Fork seals I bought from Racetech. It may be a good idea to get the inner and outer bushings just in case they are worn out. They take a while to wear out, but if they are they need to be replaced. Otherwise you will get vertical burn/scorch marks on your fork tubes. If your dust seals/wipers look like crap, change those out too. I highly recommend using an impact driver to get the damper rod holding bolt at the bottom off.

I bought OEM seals two weeks ago.
I found a Motion Pro 36mm seal driver for $39 on ebay.

There's a how to already posted on here with good pics. It's pretty thorough...however I have no objections adding to the DIY knowledge pool.
I guess it's up to Alex...aka "god" ![]()

The internals are identical afaik. The only difference is the size of the forks and the oil level/spring rate/etc.

...just read the DIY again....
That was great. I am wondering, though, did I miss it or did he not use any specialty tools? Does the PVC replace the seal driver? And is the front fork holder replaced by the bench vise? ![]()

![]() The the damper rod is the purple thing in the picture. The rod can spin when you are taking on/off the bolt at the bottom. To stop the damper rod from spinning, you can insert a holder from the top to stop the spinning. ![]() Its not always necessary to use the holder, sometimes the springs under preload exert enough friction on the rod to stop it from spinning.
