$40 pre gen adjustable dog bones

If you're like me and have been looking to raise the ass end of your beloved pregen but cannot justify dropping $100 for soupys adjustable dog bones, look no further. After scoping evilbay for too long I found these. they even come in colors.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Adjustable-R...1522a3&vxp=mtr

now before you jump all over me, yes i know these are meant for the new 250s, but you might also notice that they are almost identical to the soupys dogbones only both ends are ball joint rod ends instead of one ball joint rod end and one eye bolt. As the are out of the package, they are longer than our stock pregen dogbones. nothing a little surgery can't fix. tomorrow ill run the coupling ends through the ban saw and clean up the ends with a grinder and voila, nice green soupy knockoff adjustable dogbones for under $40.

I shall post before and after surgery pics as well as pics of them installed soon.

Surgery was quick and painless. I cut 25mm off of each end and cut about 10mm of the thread end of the rod ends so they could screw all the way in. Ill hopfully pop them into the bike next week and play around with them to see how much lift i can get out of them.

Nice find!!! I run the Custom length shortener Soupy's links. I really appreciate what raising the tail does for handling (and aesthetics), but like you said, the price was steep. Worth it? yes. Would I do it again if I knew I could get these for less money? Likely not. Let us know how they hold up, how the quality is, etc. The one thing I'll give soupy's is the quality is perfect and they used high grade hardware.

Put the dog bones on the bike today. I was a little ambitious on the cutting and would recommend that if someone were to recreate my project, they only cut 10-15mm off each end of the coupling. The bones raised the ass end quite a bit, enough that i needed to modify my kick stand so it can touch the ground. I think ill look into buying 2 new couplings and cutting them to a bit longer length. Pics of the entire bike before and after to compare tge stance to come.

I can't really make that out on this iPod: how did you modify the side stand?

Yes ive put about 130 miles on it so far. Mixed feelings. Ive gone from having both feet flat on the ground to one foot flat and the other on the ball of my foot at a stop (im about 5'10") and it may be over stretching my shock a little. On the other hand if i whip it around a corner the ass end comes right around. Heavily considering dropping it down a little to a happy medium. As for the kickstand, i cut it in half with a grinder and saw that the stand is hallow then shoved a rod slightly smaller than the diameter of the hallow channel, then welded it in place to the two ends of the stand. In extended it about an inch and a quarter

Make those links longer. I'm also 5'10" and I can flat foot without issue. I also don't have tail whipping issues. Only time I get squirrelly is under hard braking at the track.

Do you have to cut them to make them work?

As they are out of the box, they're slightly longer than the stock dog bones so they would lower the bike. So yes too raise the bike the couplings need to be cut. Just trim them a little less than i did

Alright, I'm looking into doing this.

You said you cut 25mm and would recommend 10-15mm for future cuts

why didn't you cut 5mm at a time and test it rather than jump straight to 25mm on the first cut?

haha I was waiting for this question. I don't have unlimited access to the ban saw at my work thanks to my boss's boss not being super stoked on "personal projects" which i tend to have a lot of all revolving around my bike. So rather than getting an earfull from him i just went for a quick session on the saw and popped em in the bike. I've been pretty swamped with classes lately so I havent looked, but I'm sure it will be easy and cheap to find identical couplings that I can cut again on a later day.

OK, I'd really love to do this but I don't have access to a bandsaw or a tap and die set for cleaning up the threads.

If I take it to a welder or machine shop I'll probably end up paying too much.

I didn't need a tap and die. I considered it, but simply did a tiny bit of clean up with a bench grinder after cutting rod ends. Honestly im not sure that shortening the rod ends would be necessary.
