When it whistles it is venting pressure in the tank ,so you will smell it if you're not moving.
They have a fix ...Search this forum or kawiforum |

thanks guys... ill search this fix and see if it helps... i also think it had to do with the amount of heat this past weekend... i was riding at around 90 most of the weekend at 90 degree temps... maybe that caused the pressure to build up in there too!!! at least im hoping... thanks again!!!

The '08/'09 Ninja gas tanks do tend to vent as the temperature changes and this results in a noise that ranges from a whistle to "talking".
Most of us like to think our bikes are talking to us; "take me for a ride", or "thanks for the ride", or "hey stupid why are you even looking at the HD". Well Steve beat me to the link while I was typing. When the pressure is released you would have the odor of gas. No biggie but if you are really hung up on it the "other" forum had a thread on a mod (http://www.kawiforums.com/showthread.php?t=107901)

I was thinking of doing this mod to get rid of the tank noise, but decided against it as it is something that makes the bike different and I consider her to be talking to me

Until I did the gas tank noise elimination mod I was smelling gas all the time when the bike was stopped. Now that the pressure is released gradually instead of all at once when the pressure in the tank builds, it took care of the gas smell as well as the gas tank whinning.
