Bike kicked over at apartments

Woke up to my bike laying on it's right side. Shattered mirror, scratched exhaust and turn signal. Thought it was an accident but a neighbor told me some gang bangers vandalized the whole lot. Bummer. Rides ok still. Also leaked some fluid, I think brake fluid, not much and brakes still firm.

What do you guys think is the fastest way to get a new mirror? And how do you guys deal with the threat of vandals? Only been there for 3 nights and already been tipped. Was directly under a light within view of my windows.

On a happier noter rode it up to Estes park / rocky mountain NATL park and it was beautiful and rode like a champ.

Nobody I know is crazy enough to do it but if I had to live in the apartments, I would make a big box out of 4x8 plywood + 2x4s with a lock. Assuming the apartment lets you. Doesnt help if the culprit takes the entire box but it does make it more difficult.

True...most vandalism/theft incidents can be avoided by making it more difficult for the person to do something, even if by just a tiny bit.

A trailer is a great idea. It could fit neatly in a full parking spot and it would also stop people moving your bike to park their car there.

On the other hand... it would make it quite convenient for someone to quickly toe away the bike.

It's a careful balancing act of handling thieves, vandals, angsty-neighbours, private security and landlords. We can't win!!!!

I do agree though. If it is physically possible to put your bike in your apartment and your landlord doesn't mind, then it sounds like a "Really, really, really good idea." Why am I thinking of Zoolander now?!

That is one thing about living in rural Kentucky. It is really not much of a worry around here because vandals get shot.

thats what should happen all over. I have seen a tv show showing some gang violence in denver. There's even gang activity at an Indian reservation (I think in S Dakota).

If the apartment complex allows it, the shed idea is probably best. It's like a mini garage and is heavy enough that it'll take some effort to get into. You could technically chain it to a post if there is one. Ask the apartment complex and see what they think. If they're a real pain about it then think of something else. It's really lame how difficult some areas make it for motorcyclists.

I am about to move out of my house to an apartment while I look for a new house back in Oklahoma. I have the same concerns as well however I am most worried about theft. For now I am going to chain my bike to the running rail on my Xterra but parking it on my first floor "porch" has crossed my mind. I am also having difficulty figuring out what to do when I eventually get another bike....we are only allotted two spots and we have two cars and the bike.

I wish I could put it inside but that just won't fly at this place....

I will post up what I figure out. May have to bust out the welder and make something neato.
