Interesting ride

I was cruising down the interstate yesterday in 6th gear. It was very windy. The bike word seem to surge ahead and then seem to stumble and lose a couple mph. I thought it was having engine trouble. It as the wind. I have never experienced this before. I have been blown around before, but this was interesting. The wind was coming almost head on and very gusty.

Guess we need a little more torque.

Add 200-lbs of stones in saddlebags and that’ll make it more stable in wind!

Yeah, mine behaves differently in wind, too. Just something to notice and adjust for.

My little Ninja is my first experience with a full fairing motorcycle. I always wanted one. Problem #1 - crosswinds will bat you around like a Badminton shuttle. #2 - a full fairing makes it a beeach to perform simple maintenance on your bike. The price you have to pay to be a cool/boy racer. With me it's a love/hate thing.

Mine is naked. I noted the head winds slowed the bike so much I thought I had an engine problem.

The 200 pounds of rocks would only make the problem worse. Even my 850 pound Fatboy can get buffeted in a cross wind, but the head wind has little effect on speed. The torque monster 96 cc engine solves that.

This was just something I had not experienced before.

Straight headwind makes the bike feel strange but it's generally a stable thing. Once you know what it's doing, it doesn't change much. Not like a gusty crosswind. Which can do any number of things.

Yep! I'm pulling 15/42 sprockets and don't have too much of an issue with headwinds.

If your bike has pod filters, winds can mess with the airflow in and around them causing the engine to run poorly. Don't know if that is your case or not, I've never heard of it with the stock airbox but maybe with it being naked and buffeting wind?
