Replace Fuel Gauge with Fuel Light?

I'm planning on replacing my stock gauges with a Trailtech Vapor. The Vapor takes care of tach, speedometer, and coolant temp. I'm going to get the 022-PDA dashboard holder that gives you 4 indicator lights as well to use for neutral, hi-beam, turn signal, fuel etc.

I'd like to use the fuel light - I know that everyone says to use the trip odometer and I do that as well but I also like having a visual indicator in case I forget to reset the odometer.

Can the signal from the fuel gauge be used to trigger a low fuel light? I'd imagine that it's just sending variable voltage to the gauge, so maybe with a resistor it could trip the light at the correct voltage?

Using the original sending unit, you will need some electronic brain to recognize specific Amps (yes, voltage remains the same while current changes with fuel level) and to command the light.

The simplest way is replacing the sending unit with a switch, but then, you introduce a spark inside the gas tank: no good.

Take a look at this:

I know this doesn't answer your question... but.. Just use your odometer.. I go by mine since my fuel gauge is off by a little bit.

I just shake the bike side to side and hear how much gas is sloshing around in there.

I'd still like to have some sort of visual indicator, because I'm forgetful and the TT Vapor dash has spots for four lights and it would just bug the hell out of me to not use all four. @Motofool thanks for the link - there should be a way to trip a light at a certain current. Going to talk to one of my electrician buddies to see if we can figure it out.
