14/48 for shorter tracks?
Hey all!
I searched but couldn't find any info on this combo. I race quite a few kart tracks at the moment with M1GP, and am looking to squeeze out as much power as possible down low. Anyone have experience with this setup?? (I am running 14/46 at the moment, which felt great on Horse Thief Mile. Not so great on Willow's kart track haha) Biscuit |

I ran 14/47 for a bit. Topped out at Mid-ohio, kept me fairly busy in the back half, but was lots of fun on exit. Got a bit tricky keeping the rpm's low enough at entry that I didn't run out of tach on exit, but it was still fun.
If you're only on really twisty cart tracks, you probably could go even shorter on the gearing. |

Cool, thanks for the input, choneofakind. I run big tracks as well (using the 14/46 combo), and am just trying to get the kart track gearing set up a bit better. I may try a 13 up front at some point, too, and see what feels best.

the 13T front is a viable option, we use it - I would get one as they are the cheap and if you don't like it or don't use it much then no big deal

I raced an entire season on 14/47t on a 2011 Ninja
GPS datalogger top speed was 163.8kph (speedo above 180kph) (slipon, std headers, std airbox, Factory pro stage 1 kit, Unifilter foam) It JUST topped out at that speed millisecnds befor the T7 at barbs. Gave me advantage over the opposition as I could holeshot, and more importantly GET to top speed quicker, and never have to use 3rd gear at all. Im 75kg without gear, anyone heavier had to run 47T, 46 was almost as good, 45T was gutless, std 43T road gearing wold require 10 more hp to even think about pulling it. 13T fronts are a big no no with 520 chain, works far too hard to get around the small diameter so any advantage is lost. |

I have not seen any issues with chain wrap, wear, or any indication of this. Maybe chain wrap can be an issue at some point but there are lots of people on the grid that have used the 13T without any issue.

May just wear a little faster, if I had to guess.

13/46(47) should do the trick for your short, tight tracks such as kart tracks. Can be somewhat busy on certain layouts, but should be an overall good gearing. On your 2 mile tracks, go stock or custom gears for that track. Chone knows what's up, I watched him shift like mad on the bigger track with his gearing.

Lol, the 14/47 was great fun!! just took some planning with the shifting. Definitely like long gears for big track.
Now that I think about it though, 13/47 would be a riot on a cart track. |
