Same on this end. I think, since I need to get a new helmet ASAP (clip that holds the visor on is in the process of breaking), I'll probably do a complete revamp of my entire gear setup! My nikes aren't gonna cut it any better than yours! Boots and gauntlets (to replace my dickies gardening gloves ). I've seen a couple in here I like bootwise. I think I'll start a thread on gauntlets depending on how much I can find searching for them. Those, added to my new helmet should be good. My jacket is still doing pretty good! I like it. Boots and gauntlets come just after the helmet!

If you're a new rider, I do especially suggest investing in proper gear. Definitely wear good boots and other gear when you go on serious rides like in the twisties; no worries, just think to learn from other peoples mistakes.

Puma 1000 V1 Second boot, but am getting rid of them soon

They will be replaced by these:

Sidi Vortice Air
Thanks.

I never thought about socks special socks, I guess b/c I haven't been so bothered with regular socks so far. Good idea though.

Hmm, what's wrong the the 1000 V1s? I was contemplating getting those but just found them too expensive in the end.
Let us know what you think of the Sidi Vortice Airs though when you have them. I like the perforation on them.

thanks for all the info and input, so I went with 2 different kinds of boots the frank Thomas sp tech sport boot, very nice it fits a bit snug but I will serve its purpose and I also went with the icon tarmac ventilated boot I love these they have a very good fit and are easy on the feet

Me too. They're not expensive ($120 or so) and they are comfortable.

By the way, I don't like any lace up boots on the bike- the laces can get caught on the bike and cause a problem.

Agreed. I have laces though. Im always very attentive when tying them up. I remember getting laces caught in my bike chain all the time when younger. God forbid that happen to me on a motorcycle

Hopefully you never have an accident with those on, your foot and ankle would be pulverized into a gazillion pieces. But they do look good

I rock a pair of Sidi vertebra boots. I would say my foot is about normal width and I usually wear those with long socks so they tend to be thicker than the plain white ones you get at wal mart or whatever. I find the fit to be excellent once zipped and velcroed they're nice and snug but not tight. They're comfortable to walk around in, I've worn them on campus all day before. I've crash tested them before too, they single handedly saved me from snapping my ankle, in fact they protected me so well that I actually didn't even end up breaking my foot despite what all the doctors thought.
Mine are a different color but a picture of the boots:

For your sake please invest in boots having a stump at your ankle instead of a foot would most likely make life miserable. Here's a picture of what my foot looked like after a wreck wearing boots, without them I can't even imagine how much worse it would have been.

That picture shows the bruising really well but the swelling isn't as clear, I would say it swelled up to about twice the size it normally is. I have another picture of what my foot looked like about 2 weeks later, it still wasn't pretty. Again I didn't break my foot here and I still couldn't walk for almost a month afterwards and I WAS wearing boots. Let your imagination picture what would have happened without boots.

Really bad, I know but I haven't found a pair of boots yet. The selection of women's motorcycle apparel is growing...now let's hope the boots do, too!

Once the snow and rain stops...might ride out to a few shops and try on more boots.

I like those boots. Where can I get some of those at? Are they waterproof? I need to upgrade my boots. I'm wearing HD riding boots right now but they're getting pretty scuffed up and are not water proof.

FYI, after all my research on boots before I bought mine, a good set of boots are going to cost you AT LEAST $100, unless you find some crazy deal somewhere.
And even a $100-$130 boot may just be an OK boot. This is for guys I know, not sure for gals.

I spent about almost $200 for mine

when's the last time you cleaned and lubed it? it's supposed to be done every 400 miles. lube it up... it may still be serviceable. post some close up pics in a new thread and we can discuss it there.

I havent-And I have 3800 on it. Well my other riding friends said its still serviceable. I just never knew. I work on my truck and keep forgetting a new bike needs just as much attention. I will post as soon as I can, thanks!

bikes require a lot more maintenance and attention than any new car or truck.

if nothing else, squirt some wd40 on the chain for now to start loosening it up. You will still need to clean and lube it with a proper chain lube, but your chain needs something on there NOW!!

umm.... well, the only thing i can tell is that the width-to-length raito seems narrower overall than mine. other than that... nothing else i can see.

edit: i found this video. still doesn't explain it too well.
