Carb sticking

My 08 250R doesn't seem to want to return to idle immediately after releasing the throttle. I've lubed the cables, but it still retains RPMs for a few seconds after turning off the throttle...any ideas?
I'm thinking about shimming the carbs & removing the snorkel...would this help?
Thanks in advance.

When was it last serviced, more importantly when were the carbs last cleaned?

Air intake (leak) between carbs and intake valves.
In order to locate it, spray some WD-40 or Starter fluid in that area and pay attention to a change in rpms.

I don't know about prior service. I just inherited it from the PO, a relative.
