CDI Ignitor compatibility between years
In the process of finding why the Ninja isn't running, I arced the spark plug to the frame and it has spark- just not a powerful one. The spark plugs are brand new NGK CR8HSA, but the coil wires both have crumbling insulation casing/cover. I am looking to buy some coils on Ebay and would like to buy the newest "year" that are compatible with my 1992. It looks like the coils are identical up through 2007....... has anyone used a 2007 coil set on an earlier model??
How about the CDI ignitor as well? |

OK...... after further research, it appears that the wiring hookup after '95 went to 5 pins+3 pins rather than 4 pins per plug.....so I won't be able to use the '95 and later CDI box.
But I am still wondering about the coils/wires |

Last question....... can I use the 21119-1233 California CDI in my non-emissions bike that normally takes the 21119-1229 CDI??

CDI's are expensive. It may be a better idea to fix the cheaper wiring insulation problem first to eliminate it before buying components. I would use the CDI that is made for your engine. I think the timing advance settings are controlled within them, and different bikes may have different advance settings. If you do need to buy one, make sure to buy an OEM model from the factory or from a used bike. The aftermarket ones are usually not good quality and fail easily.

As stated above, CDI dictate the spark timing. For weak sparks, check the air gap of your pick-up coil by the generator.
