A 20-MONTH prison sentence handed to a driver who killed a motorcyclist will not be reviewed, the Attorney General has decided.

Mark Walsh, 43, was convicted of causing death by dangerous driving of motorcyclist Peter Sarchet, 41.

Preston Crown Court heard in August that Walsh, an engineer from Hapton, Lancashire, “invited catastrophe” when he braked heavily to just 10mph “for no reason” on the M65 near Walton-Le-Dale.

Father-of-three Sarchet, 41, tried to stop but lost control of his Yamaha. The retail manager’s front wheel locked and he fell off his bike and slid under Walsh’s Vauxhall Insignia.

Walsh told police he had slowed to take a slip road for the M61.

After the trial, the Motorcycle Action Group wrote to Attorney General Dominic Grieve requesting he the case be referred to the Appeal Court to have Walsh’s 20-month jail sentence and three-year driving ban increased.

MAG president Ian Mutch said: "The Attorney General has said the sentence is not to be changed effectively. I've asked him if we are entitled to be privy to the reasoning."

A spokesman for the group said: "MAG is disappointed that the Attorney General has decided not to revisit the sentencing of a motorist whose actions led to the death of a motorcyclist. MAG has written to the Attorney General again."
