IF these two prototypes had simply been painted black and orange like the KTMs surrounding them, chances are nobody would have even noticed them. But instead their distraction camouflage made a sure-fire guarantee that someone would take pictures.

Found in Tenerife by a user of a Spanish messageboard, the bikes aren’t actually KTMs but the new Husqvarna 701 Supermoto – revealed at last year’s EICMA show – and an as-yet-unseen enduro version of the same bike.

In turn, though, both are little more than mildly reworked KTMs. The frames, engines, suspension, wheels and ABS brakes all seem to be straight from the KTM 690 Enduro R and KTM 690 SMC R. It’s not a huge surprise, given that’s what last year’s show bike was and the fact that Husqvarna is currently owned by KTM boss Stefan Pierer.

The Huskys do get different styling, with a new seat, side panels and front and rear lights. But in terms of spec they’re likely to be clones of the KTMs, with the same 66bhp 690cc single-cylinder engines, WP suspension and tubular steel frame. Presumably prices can’t be far off either – in the UK the SMC R costs £7999 while the Enduro R is £200 cheaper.
