James we need some more info. New bike for you or just coming out of winter storage? Starts and runs with or without choke? Old gas, new gas, any conditioner?

Best guess at this point is that there is crud in the tank that has now gotten into the carb bowels. With a pre-gen you should be able to take the gas line off the tank and connect a piece of gas tubing so you can drain the tank by going to the PRIME position of the valve on the tank. Then drain the line into the carbs, bowels, and check the bottom of the gas tank for the "crud". Taking the tank off is very simple so you could clean everything out.

It wouldn't hurt to put a NAPA (or what ever is in your area) in-line filter between the tank and the carbs.

That should get you started. Hope that dumping the bowls and getting clean gas through the system clean things up. Only put a quart or so of gas in the tank to start with until you have everything sorted out.

the pregens don't have a "prime" position on the petcocks.

Bad on me - wonder why I thought that. I've swapped a PM with James so I think he is headed down the right track.
