Chain Slack Tool?
Hey,
I searched the fourms for a chain slack tool, but nothing comes up! I'm Looking for Ideas!!! Im trying to think of a tool, to better check for the proper chain slack when i work on my bike. A type measure doesnt work well, needing both hands (wiggling and causing large room for false measurements), etc. Anyone have Pics of their Tool they use to check for proper chain slack? Instead of holding up a Peice of paper with lines on it, behind the chain while moving it up and down! I cant lay down to get a "eye-level" look while doing this. There must be an Easier, Cleaner way! thanks- |

A ruler, a thumb, and an index finger.

bottom 2 lines on that stick, mark Center of chain & upper edge of chain? Top most mark, is where 1.2" would be if the top edge of chain touched? Thanks! |

Great idea. Don't forget the chain will read more slack up in the air, as opposed to on the ground.

Just trying to be helpful, if a tad glib. "smartass" would be saying the ruler might be harder to use than the tool 'cuz you have do math. Hypothetically (), that would be smartass.

Yes... of course you're right about that. What I should have said was when you are sitting on the bike the chain does get tighter.
Now I assume the official recommended measurement was designed to be taken with rider off the bike, but I find mine is to tight at the recommended measurement... so I go a wee bit looser.
