I rode the Ninja 5000 miles in a month and almost got sick of riding

About a month ago, my wife was broadsided my a Jeep going 60 MPH and it completely totalled our car. This happened the day before we moved into the house that we bought which is 25 miles out of town. Being a family of 3, living 25 miles out of town and only having a motorcycle (not even a very comfortable one at that) really sucks. I added it up and every day for 4 weeks I rode 250 miles a day 5 days a week PLUS like 250 miles on the weekends.

Here was my life:

6am- Ride daughter to school and then return home (40 miles round trip)
7:30am- Ride wife to work and then return home (40 miles round trip)
10am- Ride to work (25 miles)
2:30pm- Leave work to pick up wife and take her home (30 miles)
3:15pm- Leave home, pick up daughter from my parents house and take her home (66 miles round trip)
4:30pm- Leave home and return to work (25 miles)
7:30pm- Head home from work (25 miles)
9pm- Fall asleep from exhaustion and then wake up and do it again

My right wrist feels sprained and my right shoulder is killing me (I'm guessing from the 1200 miles a week of 2up riding). We did just recently get the insurance check and have purchased another car and I was very happy to park the Ninja and ignore it for a few days.

BTW- The wife and daughter were OK, miraculously. If she had pulled out a second later, she'd probably be dead. And if at the last second before leaving, my daughter hadn't decided to move up front, she would probably be very hurt or worse.

EDIT- I just re-added it up. I rode 6000 miles. Bad math, I'm tired.

I rode mine for about 18 hours in the rain (trip to NC and back, stormed the whole way there, the whole way back) and got sick of it...for about 3 days, then resumed riding

Did you do anything to change it up? Take different routes for a change of scenery, play some music, etc?

Sorry to hear about your family, glad they're okay.

I feel like if you're getting sick of a motorcycle, it's just not the right bike for you.

I'm not sick of the bike, I was sick of riding in general. Temporarily, sick of riding. Now that we have a car again, I enjoy riding. I am debating on switching bikes or at least adding one, but that will be next year at the earliest.

Just curious why you just didn't get a rental car. Since it appears that it was the other guy's fault, he would be liable for your rental car expenses. It does not matter whether you have rental coverage or not. That provides a rental car when its your fault.

Anyhow, regarding your Ninja, just remember who didn't let you down when you needed him. The seat gets pretty hard after the first 30 minutes, but its still an awesome bike.

EDIT: Nevermind about the rental. I didn't see this line "If she had pulled out a second later" which says that you probably needed that rental coverage.

Man, I never get sick of riding..but one thing is for sure == I love my car more during certain times and days (traffic, winter, rain). You could try a corbin seat...I heard they do wonders for long rides.

That does sound hard, especially with a 250.

It is very good that your family resulted unhurt; that was a serious accident !!

I still don't understand why the Jeep's insurer didn't provide temporary transportation for them.

If I had to drive my 250 like that I'd probably be crippled. I'm fine on my 250 for 200 miles or so, no problems. But I wouldn't want to do that day after day.
While some might be ok with that, it's certainly beyond the realm for which it was marketed. Recently finished a 6000 mile trip on my FJR with back to back 400-600 mile days. "Piece O' Cake". I don't think I'd try that on my 250.

-Thanks. We couldn't go after them for a rental car because my wife was at fault and we didn't have rental coverage.

I don't qualify for anything on that site. That stuff is extreme! 3000 miles in 2 days?!

I see.

What you did was really remarkable, especially riding two-up and having no option regarding weather conditions.

What sucked was when I was taking my wife home when it was 40F out with a cold downpour knowing that once I got home I had to turn around and do it all again to pick my daughter up. Could have been worse, though. It has been known to snow in September here. Either way the Ninja definitely proved itself.

I can see how that could get annoying. However, I'm sure if you were alone, and riding that bike through the canyons...you wouldn't have minded those miles.

Sounded like a rough time. That one month makes my 100 miles a day, 5 days a week + ~100 miles per weekend seem tame.
