Slipping shift pedal tie-rod

I just changed my shift pedal (old one was bent from the kickstand incident), got it all adjusted, went for a ride, and right when I went to turn around.... I couldn't shift. I had to fix it in a parking lot (at 10pm)... sucks. As the title indicates, the nuts that hold the tie-rod in place had vibrated loose. I fixed it and headed home, only to have it happen again before getting all the way down the street. FRUSTRATING!!!

I got it in my garage and tightened them down as good as I could, but am worried they might vibrate loose again tomorrow on my way to work. The service manual really doesn't address this. What can be done?

um... some loctite?

I've never had a problem with those nuts coming loose on my shift linkage, even after I've played with adjustments. Maybe you're not tightening them enough?

when making the change to gp shifting and back, i made sure i tightened them things good and got me some torque stripe to put on the nut and rod to let me know if they were vibrating loose.

yeah, i thought about getting some loctite, but $10 is breaking the bank right now.

*sigh* I guess if I can't get to work, it will only get worse... so I guess I'll charge it if I have to. I was worried I'd start burning the clutch since I had to start out in 3rd to get it home. Ninjette not happy.

I was tightening them BTW, as much as I could with the tools I had anyways. They are just into this vibrating loose thing right now.

What exactly is "torque stripe"?

in a pinch back the screw part out, slip a short length of fishing line in the threaded hole, then tighten it back up. snip off any excess line and you have a cheap nylock nut.

This happen to me to, So I took the bike from the dealer home on friday. Rode the weekend all good, got on my bike monday to go to work and the shifter fell of I'm like WTF

so I had to wait till tuesday for the shop to open and they gave me a new bolt put on some blue locktite on it and has been good eve since!

Torque stripe is an adhesive that you apply to screws nuts bolts etc....It goes on in a line connecting the bolt and the nut for example. If the nut begins to move it becomes blatantly apparent because the line of "Torque stripe" will be broken, and it will not match up. Here

Note the red line across the bolts. If the bolt begins to vibrate loose, the line of red adhesive will break and you can see its loosening.
